MYSTIC MUSIC - Songs about reggae vol. 2

Ta Travudia remix was produced in 2001 for the Rosapaeda album "In Forma di Rosa" (Sottosuono records). It's based on an ancient chant and rhythm from Salento (Puglia, south Italy), rivisited ina pizzica-reggae style by singer Rosapaeda and remixed by The Rootsman (producer from Bradford UK) in a heavy dubwise style. This tune had a global success in clubs and sound systems all over the world. It's been released, other than on the Rosapaeda album, on The Rootsman compilation "Roots Bloody Rootsman". It's also been released on several compilations, including a Shantel "Bucovina club", often without the Rosapaeda credits and without permissions.

Tammurriata reggae in perfetto stile "Different". Ironia, ritmo travolgente, e le acrobazie liriche delle tastiere di Gianluca Iodice. Il brano era inserito in un complesso susseguirsi di brani folli e sorprese musicali nella prima parte dei concerti dei Different di quegli anni.

Brano strumentale tra i più longevi nei concerti dei Different Stylee, già presente nel primo demotape della band nel 1984, rimasto poi sempre nel repertorio dei live attraverso gli anni e le continue evoluzioni della band. Rockers era il nome dell'etichetta del grande musicista giamaicano Augustus Pablo, la cui melodica ha ispirato questo brano.

Forse il primo brano rap mai fatto in Italia? L'hip hop era una delle suggestioni musicali in casa Different sin dai primi anni 80. Una delle ispirazioni delle cantanti in questo pezzo, arriva probabilmente da un album delle Sequence, trio femminile Sugarhill records.

Uno dei momenti più gioiosi e coinvolgenti nei live di quel periodo. Le cantanti Antonella "Rosapaeda" Di Domenico e Terry Vallarella si ispirano al dj style giamaicano primi anni '80, con un testo in cui ironicamente e sfacciatamente rivendicano la loro indipendenza ed ascendente sul genere maschile. Da vertigine l'arrangiamento di Gianluca Iodice!

Da un atmosfera rarefatta subito dopo la parte più "danzabile" del live, nasce un inaspettato "canto delle lavandaie del vomero" su un tessuto percussivo africano. E' la world music dei Different, che trovava nella tradizione napoletana uno dei suoi punti di riferimento. Il brano è un canto d'amore risalente al Duecento (secondo altri, al XIV secolo) divenuto canto di protesta contro la dominazione aragonese, in cui il fazzoletto (moccafora) assume il significato di terra. Fu fatto conoscere dalla Nuova Compagnia di Canto Popolare nel loro momento di massima popolarità all'inizio degli anni '70.

La nostra interpretazione musicale di un bellissimo poema di Sista Faybiene Miranda, straordinaria poetessa, militante e cantante rasta attiva in Giamaica negli anni 70 e 80. Un'autorevole, forte e rara voce femminile nella cultura giamaicana di quegli anni, spesso dominata dai maschi e dal maschilismo, che non mancò di impressionare favorevolmente le due cantanti dei Different: Antonella (poi Rosapaeda) e Terry (poi Faraualla).

As a pioneer in the italian reggae scene from various decades, the longtime background of dj selecter Mimmo "Superbass" Pizzutilo has a solid foundation in roots reggae and dub music. Nevertheless his record box is enough deep to include all the bass culture spectrum trough dubstep and jungle, as well world music echoes as afrobeat and italian ancestral folk rhythms. 
In the superbassism concept, basically you can expect everything is groovy and vital, with a conscious and cultural awareness. Dubplates of his I&I Project sound system, as well unreleased and special tunes are also often part of the Superbass sessions.
