Melbourne’s Superconscious Records has become a source for straight-up, surefire club records. A string of 12”s from András, Francis Inferno Orchestra, Luis CL and more have presented a globally focused sound from a humble stable, grown out of Australia’s greatest city.
International nomad and the imprint’s co-founder Fantastic Man follows suit with the label’s sixth record Rhythm Algorithm. A hypnotic trio of mind bending explorations, all with a firm retrospective nod to the inner-city sounds that club music is built on.

The speech was a gimmick, a joke, a fraud. As if it would make any difference in the long run. As if they wouldn't be stood in this same spot next year listening to the old tired rhetoric which had been told time and time before. That's what politics was, is rather. Nothing had changed in decades, the wheel continued to spin and we the hamsters keep on running round and round in circles shouting to get off. One day we might finally pluck up the courage to hurl ourselves from the wheel and into the abyss, until then nothing will change. 

The Carry Nation are proteges of David Mancuso and Johnny Dynell, this month sees the pair release a new EP on Batty Bass Records. It is accompanied with some fine remixes, such as this from Justin Cudmore of The Bunker & Honey Soundsystem.

Recorded between London and Paris, @jeigomusic's forthcoming EP for the newborn @airmilesrecordings, 'An Ode To Midnight', is packed with the kind of laid-back bounce and subtly-woven, velveteen textures that pledge to make some serious waves across the dancefloors in the next months.

The 28-year-old who has previously released some highly acclaimed music on his home label Casa Voyager as well as on Mechatronica delivers a versatile and funky techno/electro EP with breakbeat and acid influences. The inaugural release of air miles is introduced by Jeigo with his “An Ode To Midnight EP’ which was written and produced in the Spring of 2018, between the cities of London and Paris.

The tone is set from the off with the eponymously named first track of the release ‘an Ode to midnight’. The tracks mellow break beat feel is met by warm rushing pads, ebbing and flowing between textures of the night before last.

Floor focussed, zero fussing ‘Wing Systems’ carries the front side at an orbital trajectory. No time for an intro, the drums jolt you into alertness, the wobbly bass perfectly counterpointed by gated, washing keys.

‘Lime Hawk’, melancholic euphoria brings the release back to the conscious. It’s structure toy-fully crescendos and builds, all while the Balearic synth peaks with the sub line keeping you grounded throughout.

Rounding off the record is ‘By My Side’ meandering the record into slightly darker territories. The shifting keys wash over, the siren call vocals penetrate and the thudding kick punches through, anchoring the track as an emotionally driven, cerebral affair.

WRECKS025 comes from the mind and studio of Coral D aka Duncan Stump, this relatively unknown producer (only two other releases to his name) serves up three tracks of directly dubbed out drums and trippy psychedelics. The 'Sway' EP is a tightly tuned collection of tracks, each of the elements sitting perfectly next to each other, minimalistic at times but still with a good emphasis on the low end dynamics and squarely aimed at those lost moments on the dancefloor.

WRECKS025 - CORAL D - SWAYS

The days had been long, full of demands and stressful liaisons. But at the end of the week, the hedonism would begin. The weekend brought with it a time for escape, to leave your troubles behind... at least momentarily. When the clock struck 5pm everyone made a beeline for the door, eager to squeeze as much euphoria out of the next two days as they possibly could. They weren't the only ones, across the world people watched the clocks each Friday, counting down the seconds until they could dive head first into self-indulgent activities. 

Following his remix for Sandboards on Feel My Bicep's eighth release, James Shinra steps up for his debut 12" that includes three remixes from R&S affiliate Benjamin Damage and John Beltran. Shinra feels perfectly at home on the imprint, his melodic synth lines and electro leaning sound delivering the feelings of euphoria we've come to expect from an FMB release.
