Jerry Tabor’s 40-grit (2013) is a large-scale work for percussion quartet composed for and dedicated to Eric Shuster and the 2013-14 Salisbury University Percussion Ensemble. Tabor, who studied with composer Thomas DeLio, explores a performer’s limits and challenges the function of time and space in his music. The work was named as such to represent a stripping away of musical associations in favor of a raw approach to sound and gesture. The ensemble's studio recording of the piece will be included among a forthcoming collection of Tabor’s recent works on Neuma Records.
