In Hour 2 we welcome Khruangbin , the Texan trio who take influence from 1960's Thai funk (their name literally translates to "Engine Fly" in Thai ) and include Laura Lee on bass, Mark Speer on guitar, and Donald “DJ” Johnson on drums. Their debut album from 2015 ‘The Universe Smiles Upon You’ is steeped in the bass heavy, psychedelic sound of their inspirations and was recorded at their spiritual home, a remote barn deep in the Texas countryside. The band listened to a lot of different types of music on the long drives out to the country but their favorites were 60s and 70s Thai cassettes gleaned from the cult Monrakplengthai blog and compilations of southeast Asian pop, rock and funk. Their mix is a sublime selection of music that includes Arthur Verocai, Return to Forever, Serge Gainsbourg, Miles Davis and some incredibly rare records from Christy Azuma, Ahmed Fakroun and Theodora Ifudu. You can catch them playing alongside Kendrick Lamar, Jamie XX and Kamasi Washington in Hyde Park, London on 2nd July, their US Tour kicks off in September and they have a remix release coming out in early June.

The name Superdark contrasts the music and the artwork created by the band.  The sonic and visual spectrum is inspired by dreams, contradictions and the surreal.

The Zurich-based band presents a modern take on psychedelic space rock. Their warming guitar riffs and polyphonic vocals will take you on a soothing journey to explore the subconscious. Their upcoming album “So Far Out There” will be released in early June 2023.
