Sleng Teng may not have been the first digital riddim created in Jamaica but it was certainly the most revolutionary.

Wayne Smith took the factory preset 'rock' from his Casio MT 40 Keyboard down to Jammy's Studio and made it the basis for his monster hit “Under me Sleng Teng”. Today, It is among the most versioned of Jamaican riddims. Through 26 years of Sleng Teng history it was re-cut dozens of times by many different producers and released by different labels.

Dreadsquad's version of the riddim, Sleng Teng International, is a tribute to digital reggae music. They built their riddim in their studio in Poland before sending it out to be voiced by many artists around the globe: from Jamaica (King Kong, Perfect Giddimani, Natalie Storm) to UK (Deadly Hunta), from Germany (Dr Ring Ding, Long Fingah) to USA (Prophet Z), from Poland (Marika) to Japan (Rub-A-Dub Market). There are also versions from France (General Good), Norway (Jabaman), Croatia (Stinky Ranks), Hungary (Gregory G Ras & Dannona), Russia (Steppa Style) and Italy (Nico Royale & Mark-One).

01 - Dreadsquad feat. Perfect Giddimani - Champions anthem

From the remote township of Te Mata, in the rugged hills of New Zealand, comes a new imprint following in the tradition of mid-80s rub-a-dub from an often overlooked corner of dancehall culture.

The brainchild of local farmer and radio personality Red Robin – alongside the deadly production duo Naram and Art – the first 12” features two heavy-like-lead riddims with discomix cuts from four unsung heroes of the 80s with conscious, street-level lyrics.

Side A finds legendary singer Winston ‘Midnight Riders’ Powell rise again on a synth-infused piece of classic rub-a-dub. Despite being his first release in decades, he delivers a cutting edge vocal from his Kingston 9 borough about life Outta Road in the Jamaican capital. He then crosses live to special agent Speng Bond for a deejay report on the current state of Britain in Dread Outta Road.

With a more uptempo riddim, the flipside sees Toronto-based 80s star Steve Knight fire some timely shots at corrupt politicians with Dem a Fraud before Los Angeles-based MC Tippa Lee comes correct with a self-affirming deejay cut on Salute the Veteran.

Both sides are served with one-away dub mixes from Naram and added textural touches from disrupt. Mastered and cut by Pole / Scape Mastering for extra heavy low end. Strictly limited pressings.

Dreadsquad's output has been prolific but always full of quality. To date, they have released four mixtapes and two albums, in 2005 and 2009, and nine singles between 2009 and 2012, covering an array of genres through both the original tracks and the remixes, cooperating with Reggae and Hip Hop artists from all over the World. As well as performing hundreds of gigs in Poland, they have also played all around Europe and North America.

Early 2012 kicks off with yet a new release, delivering nothing but top quality with 16 tunes as varied as they come! Indeed, The Riddim Machine is as colorful as you may expect it from the lineup of the featured artistes:

True blue Jamaicans such as the "Deejay Daddy" U Brown, Ward 21, Perfect Giddimani and Scarra Mucci are as well representing as Germany's Ska and Dancehall veteran Dr. Ring Ding, the Britain based Lady Chann, El Fata, Tenor Fly and Blackout, and Kasia Malenda, Poland's answer to Adele and Amy Winehouse -- to name but a few.
You will find a dynamic mix of authentic Jamaican riddims and styles with modern bass-heavy genres from a producer at the top of his game -- a variety that spans from old school Ska to the digital computerized style of the eighties and from heavy electronic Dub to rootsy Rock Steady.
On top of that, Dreadsquad shows off amazing remixing skills -- foremost in the atmospheric dubby reworking of the infamous Polish 'suicide tango' To Ostatnia Niedziela, using the vocals of the original 1936 recording by Mieczysław Fogg.

With the antipodean spring having finally sprung, the Red Robin posse have hatched a fresh 12” that’s been incubating over the southern winter.

Featuring two ‘new’ veteran artistes, as well as a couple of more familiar collaborators, RR03 is bound to be another highly-collectable edition to their growing catalog.

Side A opens with Midnight Riders on a classic piece of Naram digi roots – this time lamenting the quick temper of his 'Jealous Woman' in the dance. However there’s two sides to every coin, so part two sees legendary UK sheejay Ranking Ann construct a compelling argument that it’s the 'Jealous Man' who presents the bigger problem!

On the flip Naram explores an earlier rub-a-dub sound, giving a solid foundation for roots icon Earl Cunningham to issue a decree against gun violence on 'War in the City'. Raggamuffin Junior Cat then hammers home the message with a relentlessly militant deejay cut, 'Stand Tall Ghetto Youth'.

As per usual, both sides feature killer versions from Naram and have been carefully mastered to tape by Pole. And, also as usual, they’re strictly limited pressings - so don’t sleep.

The release is composed of 3 tracks, vocal, dub and riddim.

Superfly is a label based in Poland founded by Marek Bogdanski aka MMF, co-founder of Dreadsquad – one of the best known Polish soundsystems.
It is focused mostly at heavy bass music which include Reggae, Dub, Dubstep, Drum'n'Bass, Garage and Breakbeat.

Except releasing music as digital downloads they try as well to keep vinyl culture alive.
