The latest episode in the ongoing site specific soundscape series for the bathrooms at The Bearded Tit on Gadigal Land, Sydney. The Bearded Tit is an LGBTIQA+ bar and gallery safe space which has been a sacred place for community to gather, dance, snack, drink and watch shows, bands and performance art. 

Composed specifically for the intimate sound system of The Bearded Tit’s gender-neutral bathrooms, this site-specific work is a drifting, layered soundscape—part séance, part tone poem, part meditation, part sonic embrace.

In this space between stalls and states of being, sound leaks and lingers. Field recordings, whispered histories, spectral cover versions, and spoken spells are woven together to create an ephemeral listening portal—something between memory and music, sculpture and scent. It’s a space to pause, to float, to feel heard without speaking.

This isn’t music in the traditional sense. It doesn’t demand your full attention or a paid seated audience. It slips into the edges of your awareness, inviting not hearing, but listening. It is sound art: invisible yet immersive, unfolding in time like breath or weather.

Inspired by the spirit of John Cage’s silences, the chaos of Russolo’s noise machines, and the legacy of queer voices who sang, screamed, and shimmered before us—this piece holds both the noise of now and the ghosts of then, them and anthem 

Here, in a bathroom turned temple, the sound asks you to stay—and subconsciously to notice. To sense the sacred in the incidental. To remember that even flushes, faucets, footsteps, flatulence and fragments are part of our queer chorus.

RA.1000 launches with Theo Parrish, live at fabric: a vanishingly rare club mix from the king of deep crates and impossible transitions.

There are DJ sets and then there are Theo sets. No matter how many times you've caught him in action, every time still feels like the first. Running hot, levels smoking, isolator working over time. You think you know dance music? Think again.

Parrish's debut on the RA Podcast is a milestone for the series, one we've sought for over 15 years. So it was only right that Theo led off our 1000th celebrations. Recorded live at fabric last December as part of RA's party with the London club for their 25th anniversary, this three-hour segment documents the crescendo of his eight-hour marathon. 

The Detroit legend doesn't release mixes often, and when he does, they're usually studio recordings: think NTS shows, his 100% Detroit edition of DJ-Kicks or classic tapes Body (1997) and Methods of Movement (2000). A capture of the Sound Signature boss on the dancefloor is hard to come by.

Sure, there's galvanising build-ups and crowd-pleasers, but laced throughout a Parrish beatdown are rarities designed to shock the system. In a business dominated by marketing, the vinyl master towers above thanks to a relentless hunger for lustrous melodies, moods and textures of all stripes, which he and he alone can fold into an inspiring and exhilarating joyride.

On RA.1000, blissful reggae precedes new wave disco; '80s R&B morphs into synthy techno; bleepy Chicago jack makes way for a poignant vocal ballad. It's Theo through and through. Once again, he proves that anything and everything is possible with the right records.

Joining Tottie this month for a b2b 2hr was DJ Richie Panic - a fixture/influence/problem in California nightlife for an unreasonably long time. From hysterical club nights to, late night warehouse meltdowns, he attracts the best and brightest of dance music maniacs to his parties (Lights Down Low Co-Founder) and DJ sets. He’s played in the best places on the worst sound systems, and  the worst places on epic systems. Despite his endless misanthropy, he's still called a “man of the people”. If it weren’t for music, he would probably live in a well-curated cave somewhere. Once, a guy came up to him at a party and said, “you’re that guy who plays house music, but every song is weird.” Good enough!

it always feels like a special day when there’s a new razrbark mix hitting the web, like a rare delicious sweet treat being gifted to us all. i’m not sure when i first discovered razrbark, perhaps a few years ago as it feels like we’ve been connected online forever (but who can keep track of time these days?), however, the day that i did was like unearthing a hidden gem. based in new york, razrbark has an approach to djing that comes from years of dedication to the dancefloor & being raver first and foremost. there’s a heat to her mixes that come from the warm glow of the tracks that she selects, the sludgy pace that allows you to practice patience and savour every bite, absorbing the mystical kinetic energy that is channeled through every record. from her contributions to ccl’s subglow, down2earth and distant signals mix series, the esoteric the lot radio sessions to the live recordings from iconic gigs such as the much-loved honcho campout and sorry records at bossa nova civic club, there’s a lot to sink your teeth into. 

another contribution to the world of razrbark, her 909 mix starts of humid with a chugging energy that comes with tracks slowed all the way down before flowing into an otherworldly selection of dreamy, acidic techno, creating a light respite from the steamy intro before ending on a grungy note. you can hear the references from one of razrbark’s key influences, buffy the vampire slayer. if the bronze booked djs, this is what they would play.
