French duo SUPERNAIVE are releasing their debut album Nekomata. It gets its name from the shape-shifting cat of the Japanese bestiary. The album was recorded between Paris and Tokyo. To this day, it is SUPERNAIVE's most ambitious project with 13 eclectic tracks, including electronic, RnB and pop rock vibes, somewhere between the roundness of the “Dazed & Confused” EP and the saturated dissonance of the EP “Lions & Pigs”

With this first album the two brothers bring together shadow and light in an inspired and well thought through production. The use of old instruments unearthed from the graveyard of the analog synthesis by our archaeologist artists contributes to the bittersweet aesthetic, poetry and sensuality of this record that you will hum from the very first time you listen and will still discover after the tenth. If each track has its own identity, often enhanced by the voices of guest artists, the music has its own character which gives such uniqueness and density to the project.

Nekomata

Versions

After their colorful first album “Nekomata” and their powerful second album “Versions”, SUPERNAIVE presents “Dordogne” (to be released June 2023), their new hybrid project between a video game soundtrack and a real album.
This double LP of the two brothers includes 30 tracks, oscillating between melancholy and wonder. They build a strong narrative throughout the songs, taking the listener by the hand to discover their unique poetic universe. Childhood is one of the band recurring themes, resonating here with the watercolor graphic universe of Cedric Babouche through his eponymous video game.
"Dordogne" is both the story of the composers and that of many young adults, nostalgic for the happy days spent alongside their grandparents during the school holidays.
Throughout the tracks, the listener will recognize warm sound textures (magnetic tape recorder, tube amplifier), gradually plunging him back into his forgotten youth.
SUPERNAIVE invite the Canadian Joseph Shabason on 4 tracks where he plays fabulous harmonized saxophone solos of which he alone has the secret.
Finally, the lyricist (and sister of the composers) Leo Mirage also wrote 4 key tracks of the album, which she performs herself for the first time.

Supernaive consists of two brothers of blood and sound, mixing electronics and acoustics sounds in an inventive and 
delicate way. Masks, synonymous with eternal youth in the Noh theater in Japan, cover their faces, letting the music bring their poetic doubles to life.

After their two albums, "Nekomata" (2020), and "Versions" (2021), Supernaive present their new single, a cover of "Better Off 
Alone" by Alice DJ.
"We had a great time working on this cover, we were listening to the original twenty years ago! We tried to bring some heat to it, to slow it down. We hope it will warm up your cold winter days a bit! This is the first time we've tried covering a song, and certainly not the last." 


Better Off Alone will be to (re) discover in their live show, magnified by a custom scenography and cinematographic projections, immersing spectators in their unique universe.

Supernaive are two brothers from Paris, France, merging electronic and acoustic music in a delicate and unique manner. Bloggers, critics and music fans praise them as a fresh and creative band, composing with colors and emotions, in a Japanese pop culture-like fashion, which the Supernaive brothers refer to as a major influence. Their new “Dazed & Confused” EP makes on one hand reference to a magazine with covers which evokes sophisticated – but sometimes disillusioned – portraits. And on the other hand, to Richard Linklater’s movie of 1993, which shows us the last day of some fairly lost high school students at the beginning of summer 76. “With this EP, we wanted to speak about adolescence, sex, girls, and the passage to adulthood”.

After the success of their first release "Dazed & Confused" in June 2017, Supernaive returns with a new EP: "Lions & Pigs".     

Dark and enigmatic, the four titles of "Lions & Pigs" were composed under the suffocating heat of Paris in summer, drowning in sweat and alcohol.     We find ourselves in the middle of a musical universe on steroids, organic, damp and sticky, mirroring more metallic and sharp industrial sounds. The tracks mix brutality and tenderness, depicting as we listen to them, a nocturnal, tortured landscape.     

Lucas and Baptiste, blood and sound brothers, invited NAL to sing once again on two of their compositions. Since their meeting in 2015, the singer and the musicians got closer, building together little by little the structure of a deeper project.  They sign here a radical and asserted artistic turn, and offer you a particularly singular musical experience.

The brothers chose to personify two oneiric characters that have almost identical faces. They cover their faces with masks that are symbol of eternal youth in Japanese Noh  theatre – allowing the music to give life to their poetic doubles.  They have performed DJ set and Live in many cities in France and across the world (Tokyo, New York, Hong Kong).

Nekotama is the third single and track of the eponymous album. SUPERNAIVE presents us a track with a rhythmic beat typical of the early 2000's which oscillates between hip-hop and reggaeton. On this track Lonher (the singer) gives us an explosive flow that resembles Missy Elliot's. 

“Before she started writing we explained to Lonher (the singer) the origin of the album's title. The Nekomatas are shape shifting creatures from the Japanese folklore. They haunt people at night to scare them and even to eat some of them. After a few weeks she showed us her own Nekomatas through her lyrics: jerks and unfaithful guys... We though her approach was so fresh and new that we decided that this track would bear the same title as the album's.”
