Cosmic Feeling is meant to represent the end of your day, reminding us that whether it was good or bad, the sun always sets, and a new one will begin soon. This tune is a homage to my father and uncle's Freestyle Frisbee legacy, as well as the song I sampled, "If You Want It" by Niteflyte.

Shoutout to the musicians Jeff Franca, Borahm Lee, Hunter Roberts, and Mike Tallman who made this track complete with live instrumentation recorded at Color Red by Tallman + Eddie Roberts.

Joon Moon’s story started in 2014 in Montmartre, Paris, in the studio of the excessively discreet Julien Decoret, born of the desire to continue after touring with Nouvelle Vague, Florent Marchet etc. … and start his own project.

With all the creative decisions already made for keyboards, vocals and drums, Julien joined up with his pals Raphael Chassin and Sébastien Trouvé for both the studio recording and stage show that they had already collectively imagined.

In early 2015, thanks to chance encounters and other musically-minded friends like Marc Collin and Hugh Coltman, Julien Decoret met another artist with an impressive live show (and someone just as reserved as he is) - Krystle Warren, born in Kansas City and recently arrived in France.
The four had mutual friends, and after a few try-outs in the studio and a misunderstanding about a certain Alice / Juliette Lewis (a story that makes them all laugh even today) a real synergy came to pass, with Joon Moon the result - both in the studio and on stage.

Their first e.p. “Chess”, released late 2015, showcases a mix of precise and impressive pop and soul arrangements, hinting that the album due in 2016 will be an exciting discovery, joyfully crashing through numerous musical barriers.

A word of warning though - the siren-like voice of Krystle Warren may have you addicted to Joon Moon before you know it! “Apple Day”, “Chess” and “Help Me” are the first taste of a debut album undoubtedly full of surprises.

Flight of The Flamingo

There is a lot of confusion with regards to the modern soul scene. An off-shoot of northern soul, it initially mixed new release independent soul, with post late-60s soul that didn’t fit with the northern scene. They championed a lot of great records, but this was the mid-80s and it now seems odd to describe nearly 50 year old records as modern soul – but somehow the name has stuck. Extra Added Soul luxuriates in this contradiction, as it allows us to mix up the boogie like ‘Love Explosion’ by Donnell Pittman, with two-step Chicago classics by Elvin Bishop or El Anthony, or the danceable sweet soul of Dyson’s Faces with Gil Scott-Heron alike ‘Patience’ by Rokk. Amongst the twenty tracks there is also room for a touch of Prince on 94 East’s exceptional ‘If You See Me’ and the cosmic soul of Karriem’s super rarity ‘I Love You

On the 14th October 2016 J&D Records release three exceptional compilations that look at vintage African-American music through the prism of UK club culture. All Night Long, Can You Feel ThatBeat and Extra Added Soul will be available on CD & double vinyl and are compiled by DJ and award winning compiler Dean Rudland, with stunning artwork from his long-time collaborators The Unknown. Across the three volumes there are 60 tracks of soul, funk and boogie.

I Love You - Karriem

Ernie Hawks' debut album "Scorpio Man" is nearly here, and about to be released during the first quarter of 2018. The way will be paved with a fresh 7" single that lifts the gritty jazz funk of "Scorpio Walk" from the album on the A side and pairs it up with the mystic groover "Message of Love", a non-LP track only available on this release.

As the track to start up the upcoming album, "Scorpio Walk" rushes on like a manic villain from an art house spy film. A groove made of a murmuring fuzz bass and a surf guitar is suddenly released into heavenly choruses, where the man of the hour lifts the ambiance with a series of lyrical flute solos.

"Message of Love" sounds like an homage to the gently pulsing library music funk from the mid 1970's. Ernie's flute lead is accompanied by bubbling Fender Rhodes, which carries the track forwards like a shy cousin of Michel Sardaby's "Welcome New Warmth". Seductive male vocal wailing haunts in the background, while the track proceeds without haste in its realm of lost budget X-rated movie soundtracks.

Dumbo Gets Mad is a psychedelic pop duo based in Italy. With three full length album under his belt, the project is characterized  by its eclectic sound, melted with a complex and unique mixture of musical styles. The band is working on a fourth release, that will come out in 2019.

Well, the song is about relationship, especially when you lose someone who is  really important for you.. This test you, because in some way you need to start over again, leaving your comfort zone for the unknown.

Tree House is the project of London-based Will Fortna. Due to the thin walls, uptight roommates, and lack of equipment in his Brooklyn apartment in 2015, Tree House began as a decidedly minimalist project. Tree House’s name is a nod to both Arthur Russell, an early and enduring influence, and the aforementioned windowless loft space where Fortna taught himself how to sample drums and play the keyboard, composing using headphones, keyboards and hushed vocals. Over time, Fortna has developed a less constrained approach, reflecting the eclecticism of his musical interests, from Pharoah Sanders to Chairlift; Mulatu Astatke to David Byrne. 

Head Up High is Tree House’s first foray since 2017’s Into The Ocean EP. Building on Into The Ocean’s careful compositions and breezy aesthetic, Head Up High introduces a newfound sense of swagger into the Tree House ouvre. With a first draft that used sampled drums from the Talking Head’s Speaking in Tongues LP, the track is a proud display of its influences. An addictive, insistent groove propelled by squelching bass and rhythmic synth stabs form the track’s backbone - a tight pulse punctured by rapturous sax solos from long-time collaborator Nathan Pigott.

Tree House are following the release with a nationwide co-headline tour with Viewfinder, with whom they share the majority of on-stage members.

The new edition of Late Night Tales journeys to Scandinavia to invite Norwegian duo Röyksopp to delve through their record collection. Their Late Night Tales mix is eclectic, diverse and wonderful. Sliding from light folk to widescreen ambience to experimental rock to prog-pop (seasoned with the occasional guilty pleasure); it’s all in the spirit of the night.

Following the exclusive introduction track 'Daddy's Groove', Rare Bird's beautiful 1975 B-side'Passing Through' then leads into Australian supergroup Little River Band. The first of several delicate folk moments, it's joined by the ever soulful John Martyn. There's a strong representation of alternative European sounds. Röyksopp mine deep and wide to unearth the rare and unusual German psych-pop of Richard Schneider Jnr (featuring none other than Can's Jaki Leibezeit on drums), France's unique F.R. David and the new age melodies of Switzerland's Andreas Vollenweider - it's pop Jim, but not as we know it. There are also the more familiar names of XTC and Thomas Dolby, as well as Röyksopp's exclusive cover of Depeche Mode's 'Ice Machine' and brand new track opening Daddys Groove. The music draws to a close with goth-dream-pop 4AD founders The Mortal Coil's Emmylou Harris cover 'Till I Can Gain Control Again'; blending into a cinematic moment from German electronic avant-garde band Popol Vuh, contributing to the soundtrack of Werner Herzog's 1972 movie Aguirre, the Wrath of God. The second part of the Benedict Cumberbatch narrated story 'Flat of Angles' closes time on this coolly individual edition of Late Night Tales.
