Supernature is excited to reveal the first of a series of collaborative EPs between
two modern day deep tech titans: Martin Buttrich and Audiofly.
A match made in groove heaven, both acts have long-since established a
pedigree for timeless tracks. Complementing each other’s sonic sentiments like
well-tailored suits, the three men initially collided in a Barcelona studio late last
year. They enjoyed such a creative spree there’s a wealth of material about to
come our way. And it starts here with these three seismic slabs of deep, rolling
gold. Press play…
“Uninformal Processing” purrs with dub science. Once we’ve acquainted
ourselves with the rolling techy drum dynamic, we’re introduced to an array of
elements… A harrowed, heavily-processed vocal sample, eerie subtle synth
textures and a bassline so rich in warmth and weight it initiates an organic swing
that hypnotise any dancefloor within a five mile radius.
The theme of hypnosis is maintained throughout “9th Configuration”. Deeper,
darker and more dramatic than the title track, it’s built on a bedrock of silky,
slinky, detailed percussion and progressively builds by way of a dominant riser
and sincere sub bass penetration. Through the darkness a shimmering arpeggio
takes hold. Rippling and wriggling amid the elements it’s a quintessential balance
of shades that twists, turns and teases throughout the eight minute adventure.
Last but definitely not least we hit “Something Happier”. Living up to its name, it
departs from the heavier tech flavour of the previous two tracks and shuffles with
a groovier, bass-led swing and a more uplifting set of synth colours. The drums
gradually build with percussive clarity before we’re dropped into a blissfully light
synth refrain which triggers an even funkier bassline twist and more infectious,
hip-shaking rhythmic elements.
A beautiful way to conclude a beautiful EP. And just in case you need to be even

"Dance Spirit?" - "I keep hearing their name everywhere". This was the general response heard when uttering their name around parties during Sonar 2014. There is a palpable excitement around them but nobody can quite put a finger on why that is. In Anticipation of their incredible Long Player, expected to drop by at the end of the summer, Chris and Reagan tease our senses with their second EP for mother label Supernature, which is guaranteed to raise their profile even more thanks in no small part to their shimmering productions and unnatural ear for melodies.The lead track, Insight is nothing short of outstanding: a mesmerising journey into shining strings and cascading percussions with the added floating vocal (performed by Reagan Himself, one half of the duo) which creates tons of atmosphere around the track. None other than Fred P was recruited to rework "Insight". Knowing his pedigree, the expectation to hear what he would do to the track was set very high and, as always, he didn't disappoint. His remix is a true work of art, sculpted and patiently built to perfection like only a true master can. He also provides us with an excellent dub mix which is more suited to those dance floors preferring a bit less melody. "Late night, early mornings" is a gorgeous piece of deep house music which truly shows Dance Spirit's dexterity within a studio environment. Bedouin are called on duty to remix it, following the incredible success of their debut EP for Supernature in the spring and they truly give the track a new identity, with middle eastern influences and a more dance floor feel. "Late nights rituals" complete a Monster Ep, further solidifying their positions as Supernature's lead artists and truly a duo to watch in the near future.

Produced only on Sundays after either a good nights sleep - or none at all - Supernature signed duo Dance Spirit have created a masterful debut album informed by their musical heroes; everyone from Pink Floyd, Ricardo Villalobos and Sasha & Digweed to the classical concertos of Chopin. If it sounds like an ambitious palette of sounds to draw from, the almost freakish natural talent of its creators Christopher Mohn and Reagan Denius makes 'The Sun Also Rises', a remarkably executed and fully cohesive musical experience.
Produced over an eight-month period between November 2012 and June 2013, the Californian born pair normally used to producing purely with the dancefloor in mind, delighted in a boundary-less opportunity to express themselves in the studio.
Fully utilising the geared up 'Skybox' studio located in a neighbourhood in Venice Beach that housed everything from a control room, a live room, an extensive range of instruments too vast to list, plus an enviable collection of hardware including a UA1176 Rev D compressor once belonging to James Brown, Chris and Reagan set about having "extreme fun" creating 'The Sun Also Rises'.
They also revelled in the collaborative process. In album tracks 'Silent Words' and 'Undressed' they invited talented Afro Cuban jazz trumpeter Gabe Steiner to come lay down some improvised horns. Nikko Gibler (Visionquest, Culprit, Bedrock), brought the full force of his musical talent on the cinematic 'Where You Want To Be' contributing an intoxicating brew of xylophone, harmonica, keys and dreamy vocals that swirl alongside Dance Spirit's dusty drums making for a moreish album highlight.
Elsewhere the album points its compass more towards club territory, with Innervisions signed Jon Charnis making a studio visit to contribute to 'Satellites', while respected Canadian tech houser Jay Tripwire lends his vibes to the deep percussive roller 'Lamentation'. The track features a cheeky nod to the good times that surrounded the album's creation with a sample recording of a drunken guy belting out Whitney Houston at the top of his lungs recorded on iPhone during on an early morning walk home from a night at LA's Exchange. A more 'official' vocal contribution comes from singer Shawni who features on two album cuts, highlighted by 'Silent Words' with her gorgeous pipes combining with delicate horns and strings to create arguably the album's most beautiful moment.

Supernature unleashes Tamer Malki’s soulful mystery with the emotional four-track EP, Lifted.

Tamer has been picking up well deserved international attention with his recent release, ‘Change Your Mind,’ on Kindish (Get Physical’s sister label). His sound is instinctive and current; it evokes a level of emotion that is both uplifting and grounding. You can hear his desert ancestry in-between the bass and claps, feeling its warmth in resonant melody.

The word DEEP comes to mind when pounding this EP, but that’s an understatement. Perhaps there are no words to communicate the primitive sounds the soul makes, luckily there is music for that, and Tamer Malki is speaking the enigmatic language of the heart in both Lifted and Steel Breeze. AlexKid and Fabio Giannelli, serve up remixed variations that add a whole new dimension to an already seamless production.

Lifted sweeps you off your feet, and dissolves the ground below, evoking images of an astral dream; your body effortlessly carried over villages and cities, over sand dunes and mountains, beckoned by far away drums and mysterious vocals by Alex Nazar. Tribal percussion, sonorous bass and well-paced snares only start the journey through an orchestra of discord and harmony which is the human experience. All a bit heady but deeply moving and incredibly danceable.

Fabio Giannelli, with 13 years of dance music experience and some summer hits also coming out of Get Physical and Steve Lawler’s, Viva Warriors, brings to the Lifted remix a more techy sound and a quicker delivery of hefty bass, not forgoing the airy galactic elements of the original track. Fabio amplifies the discord bringing listeners to a level of restful unease which is perfectly timed and then placated by the tracks deep and alluring vocals.

Steel Breeze, is possibly on the lighter side, with deep native bass sounds which meet the modern world in sonic alchemy. Kicking off with a deep melody and travelling bass, this track’s got undeniable rhythm and a sound that carries. Wafting guitar riffs laid over rain sticks and Tamer’s signature spaced sounds bring captivating notions of warm Balearic sunsets or even a midnight jungle rendezvous. Always blending dark with the light, the deep groovy bass could also easily take you through sunrise and into oblivion.
AlexKid, is renowned for his remixes from Nina Kraviz to Damian Lazarus. His collaborations with M.A.N.D.Y and home base at Watergate club in Berlin have made him an integral part of the Berlin music scene and he brings all that force to his Steel Breeze Tooldub Remix.

The 15 contributing artists have all chosen a color to define the essence of their track. The selected colors expand the traditional spectrum with on-point specifics like ‘Matt Silver,’ ‘Lunar White’ and ‘Mint Green’. Regardless how many adjectives used, everyone will see these colors differently, and that is exactly the point! The experience of colors, like music, is subjective.

The project’s rich concept adds layered depth and gives listeners an expanded auditory experience. The colors are well considered and one hears the artistic intention behind the labeling.

In a profoundly personal, artistic revelation artists also provided the reasoning behind their selection, evoking instant imagery and placing listeners in the mind of the musician. Of their track, ‘Lunar White’, John Charnis & Jimmy Maheras said, “When we wrote the song the melodies reminded us of the moments in a dark dance floor where people's faces were illuminated, whether by strobe lights and lasers, or the glow of the moon in an outdoor party.” That visual association becomes abundantly clear when one listens to the corresponding music. On ‘Fuchsia’ Dance Spirit say, “’Fuchsia’ is the color of universal harmony and emotional balance and helps to create harmony and balance in every aspect of life. That is what we are trying to attain through the message of this song, and our music in general.”

The album takes listeners on an oculauditory journey through time and space; from Julien Chaptal’s lush and peaceful ‘Orange’ to Doomwork’s moody and introspective ‘Midnight Blue’, the LP tells a story. Kolors features seasoned Supernature artists like Den Ishu (who also releases under Desolat and Noir), Carlos Sanchez (a young gun, blazing the industry by storm, receiving praise from industry veterans like Danny Tanaglia and Richie Hawtin) and Audiofly to name a few- but true to their standard the label focuses on emerging talent. Affirming the strength of the label’s talent pool, even the new family members deliver auditory joy in epic proportions.

Supernature was set up in 2007 by Audiofly to release music they were passionate about and was deserving of more attention. With a roster that has developed from this Barcelona-based duo’s global touring schedule, Supernature is truly an international family of artists, such as Kabuto & Koji (Costa Rica), Amelie (Ibiza/London), Fabio Gianelli (Italy), Ali Nasser (Romania), Alejandro Vivanco (Chile) and many more.

While still releasing some vinyl to go with the digital output the label has become a firm favourite with the great and the good. Supernature will continue its mission to deliver the finest quality music, whatever part of the world it comes from.
