Citizenn is the moniker of London (via Nottingham) based artist Laurence B. Taking his name from a passing visual reference in the Manga film Akira Citizenn originally arrived via releases on MadTech, the label owned by New Jersey house don Kerri Chandler. Within a year, after singles on Waze & Odyssey’s Street Tracks, 20/20 Vision as well as on the label extension of Love Fever, his favourite underground party, Citizenn had been named DJ Magazine’s Breakthrough DJ of 2013. 

As the musical journey continued, 6 am stints at Berlin's infamous Panorama Bar and a globe-trotting diary taking him from Japan, Tulum, Kiev and everywhere in between, he distilled all these new experiences into his debut LP on Damian Lazarus’s ever-influential Crosstown Rebels imprint. The album entitled 'Human Interface' dealt with themes of human intersectionality with our mechanical counterparts through a tapestry of the tightly wound house and techno influenced an EP, the records receiving national radio play and praise from his peers. Citizenn has been a mainstay at popular Ibiza hotspots such as DC10, Blue Marlin and Sankeys for the quickly growing Abode brand of which he has also released with.

Citizenn has found a clarity of vision within the circus that is life as a successful musician.

A leading DJ, producer, A&R and label boss, Josh Butler is an artist forever in evolution. June sees a welcome return to Rejected as he delivers his fourth EP on the label, entitled 'Back'.

'This EP was one of the last I finished at my studio before moving my equipment home for the lockdown. The A-side is a peak-time tool with African inspired rhythm and percussion, whilst I'd heard the word Baobab on a documentary for the B-side. It's a unique looking tree commonly found in Africa and, I'd always loved the look of them so I had to use it for a track title. The track to me sounds quite natural and almost wooden so it felt fitting'. - Josh Butler

Title cut 'Back' opens the package and quickly enters into a snaking, hypnotic journey through delayed vocal interjections, resonant dubby stabs and sweeping synths, whilst the paired back 'Baobab' harnesses refined organic percussion hits beneath blossoming lead melodies, punchy low-end hits and further tripped-out vocal work to shape up yet another notable outing on Rejected from one of the UK's leading house music talents.

‘Bedouin Ride’ is one of the standout tracks from DJ T.’s ‘Trans Orient Express’ album and it now gets a standalone release along with a selection of fresh new remixes from Musumeci, Theus Mago and Balam. ‘Bedouin Ride’ directly references that in its title, but also musically, with desert-blues guitars riding over the drums to bring a deeply thoughtful and emotional vibe. First to remix is Musumeci, a project by Mauro Di Martino, a Sicilian DJ and producer since the late 80s with releases on Innervisions and Connaisseur Recordings. His version is a tantalising remake with suspensory synths, sci-fi effects and a warm bassline to carry you deep into the night.

We welcome Midlands-born DJ and producer, Citizenn, to Nic Fanciulli's Saved Records this month with brand new single, 'Stay With Me', accompanied by a killer remix from label favourite, Black Circle. Taking his name from a passing visual reference in the Manga film Akira, Citizenn, has seen releases on labels including Knee Deep In Sound, W&O Street Tracks, Mobilee, &Friends, Kaluki, Do Not Sleep and ABODE, and his DJ travels have taken him all over the world, from big festivals such as Hideout in Croatia to the Techno legend that is Berghain. 'Stay With Me' is indicative of Citizenn's unique sound, fusing together rolling percussion, moody melancholic vocals, dark and brooding synth lines all held together with an infectious bassline over ominous atmospherics. Black Circle's remix puts a different spin on the record bringing a more tribal feel to the track offering laidback drum grooves, hypnotic melodic loops, shuffling hats, intricate piano melodies and a grooving low-end to create nothing short of an Afro House masterpiece.

Continuing an already bustling 2020, that has seen him release on Relief Records and Glasgow Underground, Italian-talent Adapter makes an exciting debut on Hot Creations this November with ​Skate Dancer​. The two-track EP includes a special remix from contemporary house heavyweight, Patrick Topping.
Speaking on the inspiration behind the release, Adapter describes how he is “​a big fan of the eighties, so Skate Dancer is a mix of bass, vocals and rhythms that take me back to that era.​”
We’re graced with that feel-good eighties touch from the offset, as groovy female vocals shimmer amidst a pumping, 4x4 bassline on ​Skate Dancer​.
