Exclusive: Superpitcher - Lush Life feat. Fantastic Twins

He’s back. He’s back with some lush music. He’s back with his Lush Life single. Aksel Schaufler alias Superpitcher, a Kompakt mainstay, the co-label head of Hippie Dance, one part of the Pachanga Boys and known as the ambassador of the golden rave days, debuts on the Live At Robert Johnson label with a two tracker as golden as the twelve ravey chapters he’s put out on his own label. Lush Life, the EP’s eponymous track, features French-Berliner Fantastic Twins’ for the vocals, and comes in as Superpitcher-esque on the one hand and quite different on the other. The almost ten minute lasting track is probably a typical Superpitcher feature, what is new though, is the selection of sounds and the result in general. Aksel created an utterly atmospheric take, which flows by as fast as the rave-days, and takes its listeners back to the days when Francois K delivered dubby House music takes per excellence, just like Superpitcher does now himself. Peaceful almost spiritual and endearing are traits that describe the emotional components the track evokes in its listeners with a Julienne Dessagne, Fantastic Twins real name, delivering those charming vocals that hunt you through the night and over the floors.

Superpitcher's single Lush Life will be released on Live At Robert Johnson on February 18th, 2022.

The second chapter of The Golden Ravedays saga, due for release in February 2017 introduces two further tracks of the haunting sound adventure. Side A introduces a very surprising spectacle of sound entitled What do you miss? This track is unlike anything Superpitcher has released in the past. What do you miss? is diving into a river, serenely floating past visions that bring calm, just to be overwhelmed by jazzy white waters of saxophone and primal animal poetry all the way from forests long forgotten. Let’s Play Doctor is aptly titled as one can’t help but imagine a satellite-propelled ambulance meandering through the galaxies without any haste or emergency whatsoever. Almost 20 minutes in length, Let’s Play Doctor never bores. It’s a playful tribute to taking one’s time in enjoying the very now.

We are thrilled to bring you the third chapter of THE GOLDEN RA VEDA YS saga, released in March 2017. Number 3 of the series introduces two further tracks of the haunting sound adventure that SUPERPITCHER is taking his fans on during 2017. Side A features 1984. It has nothing to do with George Orwell’s magnificent book but it could remind some of how the apocalypse might sound one day. 1984 is as sweet as the very first track, Little Raver, of "The Golden Ravedays" album, but it stresses the fact that even though Superpitcher produces music mainly intended for the dance floor, he creates sound that is bordering on the shamanic. 1984 might as well be the meeting of a group of supersonic bottlenose whales that are overly excited to see each other after being separated by many an ocean and moon.

Side B of this edition brings us POCKET LOVE. Or shall we rather say, Side B gifts us "Pocket Love"? Because we believe this is nothing other than a gift to us all. Imagine looking into a kaleidoscope and turning the dial and experiencing all those colors as pockets of love rushing your way and exploding in satin wonderment the moment they past your eyes and ears. Imagine how it must sound like if all the e mails, tweets, facebook posts, instagrams, pinterests, grandma’s postcards, text messages, letters on rice paper, hearts scratched into trees, declarations of eternal loyalty written in sand, phone calls and videos of the whole universe were all messages of love stuffed into pockets and sent to you. Imagine the treasure you will receive! Imagine being one big ear drum and listening to the very energy that this love exists of – imagine it and you will find yourself inside "Pocket Love".

Superpitcher - 1984 (snippet)

The fourth chapter of The Golden Ravedays saga will be released on Hippie Dance in April 2017. Number 4 of the series introduces two further tracks of the sound adventure that Superpitcher is taking us on this year. Side A features Blood and Berry. It is a captivating track that reminds one of the very first years when Superpitcher made music under the alias Sir Positive. The beat is broken and the going is slow and rolling and the listening is a warm bath. There are flutes there that one never wants to stop and they almost don’t. However essentially sweet this track is, like a berry on the tongue, it might lead to some blood on the dance floor!

Listening to Side B of this Golden Ravedays edition is entering a ghost town, alone, under a full moon. Howl is a confluence of melodies and rhythms from Africa to Arabia where the snakes are being charmed out of their baskets and it is downright creepy. A spooky voice is saying something but we don’t know what exactly and it is bothersome because deep down we know that tonight when we are alone in the dark, we should be ready with the answer – or else. All we can do is wonder: Did Superpitcher sell his soul to the vampires for the vocals he let lose in this track? He answers by howling at the full moon behind thorn trees, in the shadows. Entertaining, thoughtful and brave! We salute the wolves and their master. Hooo-oooowl!

Superpitcher - Blood And Berry (snippet)

The fifth piece of The Golden Ravedays puzzle will be released on Hippie Dance in May 2017. Number 5 of the series introduces two further tracks of the sound adventure that Superpitcher is taking us on this year.

The djembe drum on the cover and the two titles of the tracks hint that this edition could potentially include stuff that was inspired by the rhythms and melodies of Africa - a sound legacy that is of great importance to Superpitcher. Side A features Bluesin. Rumor has it that Superpitcher visited South Africa and adventurously traveled into the deep bush-bush where he met new friends with captivating voices who speak in enchanting tongues. Initially, Bluesin is bursting with aching, longing and the oldest story of sorrow but there is also comic relief and pride in this story; typical of the emotional signature of the sound of Africa and the Blues that it gave birth to later on.

Side B features Burkina. It all starts rather innocently with Burkina. One gets carried away by the funky, ethnic drumming thinking yummy yes, this is going to be a virtual trip to the Brazilian amazon, or maybe a corner of the Congo, Cameroon perhaps, and one is not even side-tracked by the arrival of birdsong and something that hypnotizes, like beautiful sirens because it is all too groovy for any dictionary, and then, oh boy, then their Mother Superior arrives and all hell breaks loose. Frogs, kudu horns, rattlesnakes, things that hiss and croak and the haunting voice of Her. As if that is not enough to make you believe you have been propelled to a new continent, wait until the ending of Burkina! It will transport you to another universe altogether!

Superpitcher - Bluesin' (snippet)

The eighth piece of The Golden Ravedays puzzle will be released on Hippie Dance in August 2017. Number 8 of the series introduces two tracks that will take you to the far side of somewhere you’ve never been before. They are both reminiscent of outer space blues playing spooky games in a dust bowl.

Side A features Tuesday Paris Texas a tastefully arranged track with vintage sounds passing nonchalantly through a wild western aural landscape. The music is announced like a cowboy movie dual complete with bar doors swinging on rusty nails in slow motion. Mournful guitar strings swirl over a steady horseback galloping beat, expanding into a full-on-fire dance track. Halfway through a woman’s haunted voice appears and disappears like an eerie siren, a gunshot is fired (was that a gunshot?), a man whispers “what!?” Tuesday Paris Texas is in no hurry to give an answer.

Side B features Mirage a desert sound collage glued to a steady pulse that rolls and rolls, circumventing any destination. Mirage is a contour map of no surprising peaks just undulating valleys of wistful cathodic sound creeks, sometimes veering off to plains in full view of the moon, in earshot of solitary wolf cries. Like Tuesday Paris Texas, Mirage is testament of Superpitcher’s versatile prospecting beyond the elemental sound tools of the electronic music trade.

References from past blending with sounds of the future in ways that only he could ever put together... Deep, psychedelic, timeless…

Phenomenal Handclap Band is back on Toy Tonics with remixes by Superpitcher & Ray Mang! The New York indie disco crew delivers their third song to the Berlin dancefloor label. Their last 2 Toy Tonics singles, "Judge Not" and "Jail", have already made big waves with heavy rotations in the sets of people like DJ Harvey, Artwork, Gilles Peterson, Keinemusik and many others. Now they are back with another surefire smash: "Remain Silent".
The Phenomenal Handclap Band from New York has been known for a couple of funk-driven releases before, but also for supporting or collaborating with such giants as Bryan Ferry, Marcos Valle and Nile Rodgers & Chic. 
The band, based around multi instrumentalist and producer Daniel Collás, is releasing their new single in advance of a new album on Toy Tonics in 2020. This is just a warm up!

 "In 2015 Superpitcher was invited to go on a safari in South Africa.  He stayed at the breathtaking Tanda Tula camp in Timbavati adjacent to the Kruger National Park.

Apart from being stunned by the untouched nature of the area, he was also blown away one evening by a performance of the Tanda Tula staff choir. He was so touched by their folk songs and beautiful Shangaan language that he decided to record and produce a CD for them to sell in the camp's shop, free of charge with all proceeds going to the choir members.  This recording has since enabled guests from around the world to take the captivating voices of the Tanda Tula Choir home with them.

Not much later, Superpitcher approached Autonomous Africa with the idea of us putting out a remix EP.  It contains four very different but somehow complementary remixes from Superpitcher, LAPS, Red Axes and Esa.

All profits from this release will be split between Tanda Tula Choir and the International Library of African Music. Founded by ethnomusicologist Hugh Tracey in 1954, ILAM is an an organisation dedicated to the preservation and study of African music.”

Aksel Schaufler, known as Superpitcher, is a German born producer, musician and DJ, based in Paris.  Since stepping out in 1996, he has steadily produced his own music and countless remixes aligned with Cologne based record label KOMPAKT. In 2011 Superpitcher and artist Rebolledo, created Pachanga Boys and together they own the record label, Hippie Dance.  In 2017 Superpitcher released his third full-length album The Golden Ravedays, an epic of 12 chapter LP’s.
