19-year-old ascending talent Hector Cortes kicks off the Super Progressive Protostar Mix Series.

Hector is a Mexican artist who began his musical career at the age of 13, influenced by the renowned international DJs Hernán Cattaneo and Nick Warren.

Despite his young age, Héctor has extensive experience playing in some of the main clubs in Mexico, in his city Guadalajara, including Bar Américas, Casa Cobra.

At his young age, and with only 2 years in the world of production, Hector has only been on several labels since last year, including 3rd Avenue, Stellar Fountain, Musique de Lune and One Of A Kind.

From his first steps in electronic music to date, Héctor's productions have received support from Hernan Cattaneo, Nick Warren, Patrice Baumel, Eelke Kleijn, Miss Monique.

I first discovered Lucas through his track 'Event Horizon' which is an absolute banger. At the age of 15, he won the DMC Mixing Championship, and by the age of 20, he moved from Australia to prove his talent on the UK circuit. At 22, his production Skydive took clubland by storm. At 24, he mixed compilations for Platipus and Renaissance, and at 25, he was named the first Global Underground Nubreed artist. He is one of the biggest legends in progressive house history, and his support of Super Progressive has meant the world to us.

One of my favorite quotes is ‘Words can only affect you to the degree in which you think they are true.’ Now, recently since I've been DJing more, I've been getting some messages saying you're not a real DJ or you're only getting these gigs because you have a lot of followers or you're the problem, you're what's wrong with the scene. And this used to affect me, but it absolutely does not affect me anymore because I know I am putting in the work. I am listening to every single Beatport release. I'm listening to every single promo that comes my way. I'm reaching out to my favorite up and coming producers to get my hands on unreleased music that nobody else has heard yet. When you put in the work, you stop worrying about the opinions of others and you focus more on your own progression. Sander Kleinenberg once told me that a great DJ listens to four thousand tracks and picks the best twelve he think the dancefloor will enjoy most. And that's all I'm focused on. I'm putting in the work. I know you guys are putting in the work too, and because of that, I think this week's mix is my best mix yet. And I really hope that you all enjoy it. So I had my first ever headline set at Skyline this past weekend, and I learned what it really means to be a DJ. Now, I'll never be a DJ like John Digweed, who can create this whole vortex of sound, and while all the craziness is going on, he's just standing at the center of the eye of the storm, eyes on his mixer, in complete control. How I DJ is completely different. I like to bring my passion for this music, I like to bring my enthusiasm for this music into the DJ booth. 

Because how I create a connection with the dancefloor, and that's what DJing to me is really all about, creating a connection with the dancefloor. How I do that is I hope the clubbers on the dancefloor can see a little bit of themselves in me. They can say, hey, just like this guy is enthusiastic and passionate about the music, I'm just as enthusiastic and passionate myself. If he can do it, I can do it. 

So in the words of Danny Tenaglia, just be yourself. As much as DJing is a skill set, it's also a mindset. You have it in you to go and achieve your dreams. Just go out and do it. Let's go.
