Superstition Records proudly releases Nineties Reloaded – Superstition Classics Reimagined, an authoritative anthology of the legendary 1990s catalogue of the label, updated for contemporary floors and ears. 

Here, in a 20-track anthology, era-defining trance, techno and progressive tracks are revisited with a carefully curated set of remixes by some of the genre’s most iconic names, spanning the pioneering era of European club culture and the future direction of contemporary electronic music.

At its very centre are two solo standouts:
L.S.G.: “Netherworld (BLR X Hel:sløwed Remix)” – A peak-time anthem for 2025, combining BLR’s dark, propulsive production and Hel:sløwed’s euphoric progressive subtlety to re-envision one of trance’s most enduring classics.

Energy 52: “Café Del Mar (Oliver Lieb Extended 2 Remix)” – A decades-long secret reworking by none other than Oliver Lieb himself, emerging from the vault for the first time and presenting an atmospheric but forceful new take on one of electronic’s greatest ever songs.

One of the best-loved Ibiza anthems and club cuts of all time Café Del Mar gets brand new remixes from the original trance master Paul Van Dyk. It’s such a perfect fit that it begs the question: why has it taken nearly three decades to happen? 

Nearly 30 years ago, Paul M aka Kid Paul, recording as Energy 52, unleashed a record onto an unsuspecting public that would go on to define club culture for an entire generation of dance music enthusiasts. Named as an homage to the legendary Ibiza sunset spot, Café Del Mar broke down boundaries between the underground and the mainstream, charting in the UK singles charts on three separate occasions and named as the “best tune ever” by Mixmag at the start of the new millennium. In terms of cultural and emotional impact in dance music, it’s hard to find a record that comes close. 

Café Del Mar has come to represent the most euphoric and hedonistic pleasures of dancefloors - in Ibiza and all around the world - and has been remixed by some of the biggest names in the industry. One name that’s been strangely absent though is that of Paul Van Dyk: a trance icon and a seemingly perfect fit for remixing a record of this stature. 

Paul Schmitz-Moormann (aka Kid Paul) and Paul van Dyk were close DJ buddies in the early Berlin Techno scene, and played around a hundred DJ gigs together, all around Germany and Europe, before they moved on in different directions. Now nearly 30 years later he’s finally got the chance to remix this iconic record. 

For the new release, Paul Van Dyk delivers two scintillating remixes. The XOXO remix slows the tempo slightly and employs crisp percussion and deep, pulsing bass while still maintaining the out- and out exhilaration of that epic breakdown, while for the trance purists the Shine remix delivers the atmosphere of the late 90s alongside the sharp production aesthetics of the modern day. 

Paul Van Dyk’s Café Del Mar remixes mark the first new release on the label Superstition Records after an almost 20 years hiatus. From 1993 until 2003 Superstition Records was a groundbreaking Techno, Tech-House and Trance Label and released some of the biggest and most revered records of the early German electronic scene.

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of Marmion’s seminal classic Schöneberg, Superstition are releasing a new 21-track collection of the best remixes over the last three decades, including two brand new versions from Chris Zippel and DJ T., the remix we have on offer here upfront.

If there were to be a compilation celebrating the golden era of European techno, Schöneberg would arguably be the opening track. The most famous cut that came out of Mijk van Dijk and Marcos López’s project Marmion, Schöneberg is perhaps the purest form of what the clubs and raves of Berlin sounded like in the early 90s, and stands as one of the most revered and fondly remembered tracks of all time.

Mijk van Djik and Marcos Lopez formed Marmion after meeting while studying at the FU Berlin, and began Djing together at clubs across the city. It was from their sets that the seed for  Schöneberg was sown, as they tried to find a balance between the techno and trance sounds that dominated the clubs. It was an era ripe for experimentation, and for cross-pollination between genres, as van Djik recalls: "Coldcut was doing pop, Kevin Saunderson was playing up and down all the floors, everything fit. I didn't feel like I had to limit myself or focus on one style”.

Schöneberg was recorded in a single session, and though they returned to it several times afterwards, they never felt they improved on that first creative burst. Released as part of the Berlin E.P. back in 1993, it was heavily championed by influential figures like Tony De Vit and became of the defining anthems of the 90s.

Over the years it has been remixed a huge number of times, by a wide range of artists. Now, to celebrate 30 years since its original release, Superstition have collected the best of the remixes – from artists like DJ Hell, John Acquaviva Remix, Der Dritte Raum, Tim Engelhardt and Donnacha Costello – presented here with two brand new remixes from DJ. T and Chris Zippel, both of whom do a sterling job of putting their own unique spin one this stone-cold classic.

Thirty years after its original release the legendary Café Del Mar by Energy 52 gets yet another brandnew remix - from French duo Cosmic Boys. 
 
„Once every year“ say Cosmic Boys, „after we spent a lot of time on tour or in the studio, we are taking some time off to work on ‚just for fun‘-projects, to try new things or just to relax.“ And so this new remix for Café del Mar came to life. „We’ve always been big fans of the original version and while we were experimenting with some kick/bass and groove stuff, inspiration for this new remix came and it was big fun to finish the remix.“

Now, 30 years after its first original release, Superstition Records issues a new series of releases, with brand new remixes as well as some of the many remixes from across the last three decades. 
The third part in the series features remixes by Tale Of Us and Paul van Dyk, some of the most prolific electronic producers and DJs. First up are Tale Of Us, one of the biggest names on the dance circuit of the moment. Their “Renaissance Remix” was first released in 2018 and has already become one of the most popular remixes of Café Del Mar.

A key figure in Cologne's electronic scene, Michael Mayer co-founded the influential Kompakt label, contributing significantly to its direction and success. His discography includes seminal albums such as "Neuhouse" (1998), "Immer" (2002), and more recent works like "Higher" (2020) and "Connecting the Dots" (2021). Known for his meticulous remixes and collaborations with artists like Superpitcher and Kölsch, Mayer's work spans genres, touching on microhouse, experimental, and ambient techno. Beyond producing, Mayer's mix CDs, including contributions to the Fabric and DJ-Kicks series, highlight his broad musical taste and ability to curate pioneering sounds.

For his interpretation, Mayer leans into head spinning, hypnotic rhythms, with tribal drums and the patiently evolving lead line building towards a climax that is more subtle but no less effective. A near-perfect sunrise track for the payoff to all-night, al fresco summer raves.

First issued in 1998 on Superstition Records, Oliver Lieb’s L.S.G. project distilled late-’90s Frankfurt techno/trance into sleek, tightly engineered club tools with arc and atmosphere. The Black Album: The Vinyl Mixes (Remastered) presents the unmixed, original vinyl versions—newly remastered by Lieb—to foreground the detail in his drum programming, weight in the low end and the aerodynamic synth work that made these tracks DJ staples. Across nine pieces you move from the brooding momentum of “The Train Of Thought 1.1” and the nimble pulse of “Go Fishing” to the sinewy churn of “Cellular,” the pressure-valve release of “The Blaxone” and “Rotation,” the taut tension of “88” and “Freakz,” and the endorphin lift of “Hellfire” and “Deep Blue.” L.S.G.’s reputation for trance without cliché has been noted for decades. Originally released in 1994. L.S.G.’s ‘Blueprint EP’, containing “Hearts” and “Blueprint” remains an undisputed reference for a whole musical genre. It was one of the most successful releases at the time and indeed a blueprint for things to come. The man behind L.S.G. and other projects is Oliver Lieb, one of the most talented producers of electronic music. The two tracks perfectly showcase L.S.G.’s eerie sound creations in a perfect production and all his science works at its finest in this EP. “Hearts” is a heart-breaking tune with a distorted line and a melancholic harp evolving. “Blueprint” adds even more depth, tension and mystery before launching its amazingly gated synths and this famous little melody. It's unbelievable how perfect the sounds are, both on the musicality/harmony and mixing/mastering. The Blueprint EP has been remastered by Oliver Lieb in 2025.
