502fc4 started on the day of Prince’s death, with me playing (what I could tell by ear anyways) the chorus chords to “Little Red Corvette” for six-some minutes straight on an odd-tuned guitar, recorded to one track of a 4-track. From there other tracks were added based on the track previous, without listening to the original or preceding tracks. In other words, the tracks were not done over each other as overdubs; they were done on their own with only the “thought” of the track previous. In the end, the initial guitar track was dubbed over, and then attempts to “arrange” the song running all four tracks through guitar pedals, doing so with hints and bits of moments of Prince songs that I could recall from memory: subtle tributes in sounds, methods, lyrics, etc.

Rest in purple, Prince.

By the radiator in a wooden chair
wearing woolen stockings sits a little girl
