SUPMAG Drones in the Desert - Vol 1

A mix of cosmic vibes and epic proportions; reminiscent of A DAY IN THE DESERT.

This is a selection of the tracks that I played at DITD, with the exception of one.  The drive to the festival itself came at 3am after a gig in L.A with a car full of friends.  We arrived as the sun was rising, having fittingly listened to DJ Harvey's Sarcastic mix for the latter part of the journey which ended as we pulled up to our home for the weekend, The Cosmic Castle, literally a decorated hollow boulder with a view of the moon through a skylight window.  I have no words to describe how absolutely magical and stunningly beautiful this spot and indeed the entire location and weekend was and I'll let the photo's do that.

I DJ'd right after sunset on the Saturday, my music being dictated by the environment, and the people in attendance. I'd been to Joshua Tree many times, and always curate playlists for every trip, but I was literally burning CD's of tracks hours before my set time having been further inspired by Boulder Gardens and the DITD festival experience.
Coincidently two of the tracks I played there were by people in attendance a fact that I wasn't aware of until approached and thanked afterwards.  I have included them both on here, the weekend was full of chance happenings like that for me.  I recorded it one take at a friends studio that came with me that weekend.

I cannot listen to any of these tracks without being immediately transported back in my mind, and am constantly curating music I want to play and hear out there this year.

TRACKLIST:
"Meanderthals" - Rune Lindbak & Idjut Boys - 
Unreleased, Rune sent this track to me, with some kind of not many people will get this, but you will kind of description I listened and knew it was made for J Tree, I sped it up on here, it's a real trippy spacey slow jam in it's entirety of 12 mins, you get little a snippet of it here.

"Above Below" - Pharaohs -  
This is the track that introduced me to Pharaoh's both musically and personally, I have no idea when or where I bought this ep from, but as soon as I heard it, it went straight into the DITD playlist.  A member of the band was doing the sound for the festival, so now we're friends.  To me it evokes E2E4 and I love tracks like this with repetition and journey at the same time, I'm playing live with these L.A natives in Feb, can't wait.

"Adventurers Don't Wear Thongs" - Kriece - 
Huge tune for me, slow, chuggy, dark, and just so yummy perfectly suited to the desert's surreal sunset and darkest dancefloors.

"Odyssey Original Mix" - Rival Consoles - 
When I first heard this track I almost fell off my chair, it's completely non passive, it begs to be played loud, sucks you in and pretty much renders you useless for the duration, well perhaps you can manage a  sway of some sorts ha or maybe thats just me.

"Thinking Aloud" - Tornado Wallace - 
Big fan of Tornado Wallace, I'd been playing this track for quite some time as the festival approached, but with the setting out there and those all important lazers projecting on the boulders, in the amphitheatre I saw folks really loose their minds, in the right way to this.

"Gusanako Haka Original Mix" - KIWI   
KIWI is the man, total tip for the top.  I was being a fiend on Soundcloud late one eve and came across his music, I tracked him down on facebook and sent him  message, like a total fan girl, he was the sweetest and sent me everything he'd ever made, and it was like unlocking some secret.  In the dessert this track caused the biggest ruckus, I literally had people come up to me for months after singing it and begging to know what it was, It's slowed considerably here, sped up it's a dancefloor monster.

"Interstate" - Vosper -  
Another dark chuggy monster that's really huge for me right now, lot's of layers and surprise noises that work so well on any dancefloor.  

"Smalahove" - Simian Mobile Disco  -
Simian goes deep, this is what I call a warm and windy track, it's just really pretty and chill, perfect for Joshua Tree's vast desert skies.

"Starts Tonight (Tuff City Kids Remix)" - 
Sonns - Another L.A local, remixed by friends from afar.  Again I had the original of this ep without realizing Sonns was actually a friend, I got these remixes sent and this one kind ofd ended my work day one day and sent me digging.  Sonns is also one half of Split Secs, who are going to do great things this year, they were at the festival too, again a nice DITD coincidence.

"Iron Galaxy" - One of Us - This was a favorite track for me from the minute it came out, I just love everything about it, another warm and windy track with repetition, progression and movement. Just beautiful.

"Abermorgen" - Justuce Kohnche - Justuce is incredible, I'm a super fan I mean from Disco to Disco to this...   I honestly could have made a days and days long mix of all the music I have like this which sounds like it was made especially for Boulder Gardens, but you'll just have to come to the festival for that.  I play his more party things to dancefloors, this track is just stunningly beautiful, I'd love to sit down and talk music with this man.
