Not even two years have passed since GHEIST first broke through. Fusing that rare narrative alchemy that sings across dancefloors universally, they continue to tap into the essence of house and techno with a precision sense of playfulness and poignancy… And turn heads on every occasion. 

This return to Sasha’s Last Night On Earth is no exception. The follow up to last summer’s ‘Rufos’ EP, once again it shows the foursome at their most evocative, widescreen and, in the case of ‘Somerset’, most ardently euphoric. A beautiful tune named after the UK’s most beautiful county, it’s a rolling, break-based evangeliser that endlessly lifts with timeless rising chords and an innocent vibe hat can’t help but take you back to ‘Northern Exposure’-era 90s.

‘Nuan’ offers serious uplift, too. The pay-off from an enduring deep drive, everything is based around the striking, crystalline vocal textures that help turn the track into something you least expect… But only after you’ve worked for it. 

Already staples in Sasha’s sets, delivered on the cusp of festival season, hot on the heels of an equally hot Mobilee release: 2018 is shaping up to be a vintage for GHEIST. The alchemy continues…

East Berliner Alfred Heinrichs brings his flair for melodic techno to Kuukou with two robuts techno pieces, joined by label head Simina Grigoriu and mysterious techno duo The YellowHeads on remix duties.
Mini Me kicks off gradually, simmering into a full speed Techno smasher, with a spellbinding kick drum and a straightforward bassline. Heinrichs’s penchant for melodicity shows off shortly, as the melody uncovers itself as playful and sonorous, ridden with glistening arpeggiated synths. It’s a full on dancefloor weapon, with highly enticing dark bass elements.
Dreamcatcher shows off a lighter side of the Techno spectrum, albeit equally commanding in its bass prowess. Gleaming synths make for an inviting intro, swiftly followed by an array of assertive drums that takes hold of the lead. The end result is an oneiric exploration that embodies both light and dark soundscapes.
Simina Grigoriu takes on Dreamcatcher, channeling its darker side, adding oomph with extra crepuscular vocals in an overtly tenebrous atmosphere.
Meanwhile, The YellowHeads center their remix around arpeggiated synth arrays, with an emphasis on the deep, dark corners of the Techno spectrum. We’re greeted with hard hitting drums, an upbeat bassline and murky accents, all under the reign of a threatening vocal and overall cloudy ambiance, perfect for a late night floor filler.
