“Midori” (green in Japanese) is the latest release from A_A, the electronic experimental live project of Satoshi Tomiie and Nao Gunji.

Following up the last release “Synesthesia”, A_A carries on the “abstract colour and sound” theme on “Midori”.
“Synesthesia is a perceptual phenomenon in which stimulation of one sensory or cognitive pathway leads to involuntary experiences in a second sensory or cognitive pathway” (Wikipedia)

Waehlscheibe stays true to its Dub House approach last heard on waehl 003 with P.Laoss: The Swiss label has compiled four wonderfully relaxed and dubby tracks by various artists for release #004 – again vinyl only! Alessandro Crimi starts the record off with his incredibly deep „Gravitation“ which revolves around an ultra wam and morphing pad. S&ro's „Drunken Hat's“ is just as funky as it's dubby and perfectly fits the label's philosophy – just like A.S Cudia's „Cadendo“ which relies on super sweet rhodes and pianos to form a deep and melodic House song – two fantastic tunes. Baldo from Spain finishes the EP with his smooth oldschool House track „Deep & Down“ which delights with tons of machine Funk. Waehlscheibe continues to amaze with these four musical gems that underline the label's talent to assemble brilliant musicians and compile wonderfully deep records. Once more all tracks have been mastered by Above Smoke at the Hole of dub studio.

Jonny Cruz and Cali Lanauze are kicking off their new label, Opulence, with a fantastic Various Artists compilation featuring plenty of talented artists. Some are new to the game, some are more established, but they all help paint a fine picture of what to expect from the label going forwards, and that is deep and atmospheric house and techno. 

Jonny Cruz himself has been producing, DJing and providing vocals to great tracks and labels like Cocoon, Touch Of Class, Poker Flat and Vakant for years now. He appears here with a track alongside the label partner Cali Lanauze. They have collaborated before on My Favourite Robot and often curate parties together in Puerto Rico, so it is no suprise that the curation for their track 'Equanimity' is right on point. 

Atelier Francesco kicks things off with The Moon’s Landing, a deep and atmospheric cut with spacey sounds making for a nice intro. From there the likes of Javier Carballo offer deep techno, Sierra Sam goes all cosmic and tripped out and Vosper get busy on their dubby techno roller Womb.

Some nice vocal laced old school breakbeats from Cesare vs Disorder carry us on and then the likes of the legendary Guido Schneider links with Daniel Drier to great effect. The label bosses Equanimity then gets freaky with some spacey vibes and great synth work, where the latter half touches on more pumping beats from Pablo Mateo, smooth and serene rollers from Alexi Delano & Mark Ashken, rubbery supple grooves from Lee Jones. 

This is a fine compilation that sets off this new label in fantastic fashion.

To celebrate the 5th anniversary of the agency, Rotate has a hefty 2xLP compilation
coming, featuring its in-house artists as a follow-up to “Rotations I” from 2016. In
the meantime, the imprint prepared a 10" Split-EP teaser, appropriately named
“Mini Rotations I”, featuring Cleymoore and Loopdeville. This release will also
kickstart a series of split 10" records for in-house artists to explore their solo
music identities.

The A-Side 'How Far Would You Go' brings Cleymoore back to Rotate, and while
it may sound very different from what he has been creating over the years, his
extended storytelling techniques, attention to detail and peculiar mind-body
targetting are still identifiable, and slightly matured. Deeply swung basslines,
echoes of detailed, syncopated drum-arrangements, nostalgia-drenched pads
and spellbinding melodies are his ingredients for hypnosis, bending time, space
and musical genres.

Loopdeville’s 'Why So Dark' fills the B-Side with a lighter, more playful tone.
Sparkling modular glitches, synthesizer stabs and vocal snippets fill the space
like a micro-cosmos that is as colorful as it is dreamy, while the roaring bassline
and the tight, but slightly shuffled hi-hats keep everything groovy and strangely
jazzy. Echoing piano loops in the background ensuring the mind's need for
something organic and warm, and further enabling the effectiveness of syncopated
dance moves so familiar to micro-house aficionados.

"Mini Rotations I" is a versatile start for this series of split 10" EPs where artists can
be themselves, loyal to their own sound and their very distinct personalities.
