ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰੇ ਚੋਜ-ਤਮਾਸ਼ੇ ਵੇਖ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ (ਭੀ) ਹੌਸਲਾ ਬਣ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ (ਕਿ ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰੀ ਭੀ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਕਰੇਂਗਾ) ।

ਹੇ ਮਾਲਕ! ਤੂੰ ਨੀਵੇਂ ਕੀੜਿਆਂ (ਵਰਗੇ ਨਾਚੀਜ਼ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ) ਨੂੰ ਰਾਜੇ ਬਣਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ । ਤੂੰ ਇਕ ਖਿਨ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ (ਨੀਵਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ) ਥਾਪਣਾ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਮਾਣ-ਆਦਰ ਵਾਲੇ ਬਣਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ।੧।
In an instant, our Lord and Master establishes and exalts. From a lowly worm, He creates a king. ||1||

ਪਉਣੁ ਉਪਾਇ ਧਰੀ ਸਭ ਧਰਤੀ ਜਲ ਅਗਨੀ ਕਾ ਬੰਧੁ ਕੀਆ ॥
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਹਵਾ ਬਣਾਈ, ਸਾਰੀ ਧਰਤੀ ਸਾਜੀ, ਪਾਣੀ ਅੱਗ ਦਾ ਮੇਲ ਕੀਤਾ (ਭਾਵ, ਇਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਵਿਰੋਧੀ ਤੱਤ ਇਕੱਠੇ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਜਗਤ-ਰਚਨਾ ਕੀਤੀ ।
He created the air, and He supports the whole world; he bound water and fire together.

ਅੰਧੁਲੈ ਦਹਸਿਰਿ ਮੂੰਡੁ ਕਟਾਇਆ ਰਾਵਣੁ ਮਾਰਿ ਕਿਆ ਵਡਾ ਭਇਆ ॥੧॥
ਰਚਨਹਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਇਹ ਇਕ ਅਸਚਰਜ ਲੀਲਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਤੋਂ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਵੱਡੀਆਂ ਤਾਕਤਾਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਇਹ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਭੁੱਲ ਕੇ ਨਿਰਾ ਰਾਵਣ ਦੇ ਮਾਰਨ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਸਮਝਣੀ ਭੁੱਲ ਹੈ) । ਅਕਲ ਦੇ ਅੰਨ੍ਹੇ ਰਾਵਣ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਮੌਤ (ਮੂਰਖਪਣ ਵਿਚ) ਸਹੇੜੀ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਨਿਰਾ ਉਸ ਮੂਰਖ) ਰਾਵਣ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ ਕੇ ਹੀ ਵੱਡਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ।੧।
The blind, ten-headed Raavan had his heads cut off, but what greatness was obtained by killing him? ||1||

ਕਿਆ ਉਪਮਾ ਤੇਰੀ ਆਖੀ ਜਾਇ ॥
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਤੇਰੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਬਿਆਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀ 
What Glories of Yours can be chanted?

ਤੂੰ ਸਰਬੇ ਪੂਰਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
 ਤੂੰ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈਂ, ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈਂ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
You are totally pervading everywhere; You love and cherish all. ||1||Pause||

ਜੀਅ ਉਪਾਇ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਹਥਿ ਕੀਨੀ ਕਾਲੀ ਨਥਿ ਕਿਆ ਵਡਾ ਭਇਆ ॥
(ਹੇ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ!) ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਸਭਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਜੀਵਨ-ਜੁਗਤ ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਹੱਥ ਵਿਚ ਰੱਖੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ, (ਸਭ ਨੂੰ ਨੱਥਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ) ਨਿਰਾ ਕਾਲੀ-ਨਾਗ ਨੂੰ ਨੱਥ ਕੇ ਤੂੰ ਵੱਡਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ।
You created all beings, and You hold the world in Your Hands; what greatness is it to put a ring in the nose of the black cobra, as Krishna did?

ਕਿਸੁ ਤੂੰ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਜੋਰੂ ਕਉਣ ਕਹੀਐ ਸਰਬ ਨਿਰੰਤਰਿ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ॥੨॥
ਨਾਹ ਤੂੰ ਕਿਸੇ ਖ਼ਾਸ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਦਾ ਖਸਮ ਹੈਂ, ਨਾਹ ਕੋਈ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਤੇਰੀ ਵਹੁਟੀ ਹੈ, ਤੂੰ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਇੱਕ-ਰਸ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈਂ ।੨।
Whose Husband are You? Who is Your wife? You are subtly diffused and pervading in all. ||2||

ਨਾਲਿ ਕੁਟੰਬੁ ਸਾਥਿ ਵਰਦਾਤਾ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਭਾਲਣ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਗਇਆ ॥
(ਕਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਜੇਹੜਾ) ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਕੌਲ ਦੀ ਨਾਲ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਜੰਮਿਆ ਸੀ, ਵਿਸ਼ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਹਮਾਇਤੀ ਸੀ, ਉਹ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਕੁਦਰਤ ਦਾ ਅੰਤ ਲੱਭਣ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਗਿਆ, 
Brahma, the bestower of blessings, entered the stem of the lotus, with his relatives, to find the extent of the universe.

ਆਗੈ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਓ ਤਾ ਕਾ ਕੰਸੁ ਛੇਦਿ ਕਿਆ ਵਡਾ ਭਇਆ ॥੩॥
(ਉਸ ਨਾਲ ਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਭਟਕਦਾ ਰਿਹਾ) ਪਰ ਅੰਤ ਨ ਲੱਭ ਸਕਿਆ । (ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਕੁਦਰਤ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈ) ਨਿਰਾ ਕੰਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਕਿਤਨਾ ਕੁ ਵੱਡਾ ਬਣ ਗਿਆ? (ਇਹ ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਸਾਧਾਰਨ ਜਿਹੀ ਗੱਲ ਹੈ) ।੩।
Proceeding on, he could not find its limits; what glory was obtained by killing Kansa, the king? ||3||

ਰਤਨ ਉਪਾਇ ਧਰੇ ਖੀਰੁ ਮਥਿਆ ਹੋਰਿ ਭਖਲਾਏ ਜਿ ਅਸੀ ਕੀਆ ॥
(ਕਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਦੇਵਤਿਆਂ ਤੇ ਦੈਂਤਾਂ ਨੇ ਰਲ ਕੇ) ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਰਿੜਕਿਆ ਤੇ (ਉਸ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਚੌਦਾਂ ਰਤਨ ਕੱਢੇ, (ਵੰਡਣ ਵੇਲੇ ਉਹ ਦੋਵੇਂ ਧੜੇ) ਗੁੱਸੇ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਆ ਕੇ ਆਖਣ ਲੱਗੇ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਰਤਨ ਅਸਾਂ ਕੱਢੇ ਹਨ ਅਸਾਂ ਕੱਢੇ ਹਨ
The jewels were produced and brought forth by churning the ocean of milk. The other gods proclaimed ""We are the ones who did this!""

ਕਹੈ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਛਪੈ ਕਿਉ ਛਪਿਆ ਏਕੀ ਏਕੀ ਵੰਡਿ ਦੀਆ ॥੪॥੭॥
(ਆਪਣੇ ਵਲੋਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਬਿਆਨ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਕਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਮੋਹਣੀ ਅਵਤਾਰ ਧਾਰ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਰਤਨ) ਇਕ ਇਕ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਵੰਡ ਦਿੱਤੇ, (ਪਰ) ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ (ਕਿ ਨਿਰੇ ਇਹ ਰਤਨ ਵੰਡਣ ਨਾਲ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਕੇਹੜੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਬਣ ਗਈ, ਉਸ ਦੀਆਂ ਵਡਿਆਈਆਂ ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਰਚੀ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਥਾਂ ਥਾਂ ਦਿੱਸ ਰਹੀਆਂ ਹਨ) ਉਹ ਭਾਵੇਂ ਆਪਣੀ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਲੁਕਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਲੁਕਿਆ ਰਹਿ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ (ਪ੍ਰਤੱਖ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਦੱਸ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਬਹੁਤ ਤਾਕਤਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈ) ।੪।੭।
Says Nanak, by hiding, how can the Lord be hidden? He has given each their share, one by one. ||4||7||

ਹਮ ਅਵਗੁਣਿ ਭਰੇ ਏਕੁ ਗੁਣੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਛਾਡਿ ਬਿਖੈ ਬਿਖੁ ਖਾਈ ॥
 ਅਸੀ ਅਉਗਣਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਭਰੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਾਂ, (ਸਾਡੇ ਵਿਚ) ਇੱਕ ਭੀ ਗੁਣ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ, ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ (-ਨਾਮ) ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਅਸਾਂ ਨਿਰੀ ਵਿਹੁ ਹੀ ਖਾਧੀ ਹੈ ।
I am overflowing with sins and demerits; I have no merits or virtues at all. I abandoned the Ambrosial Nectar, and I drank poison instead.

ਮਾਯਾ ਮੋਹ ਭਰਮ ਪੈ ਭੂਲੇ ਸੁਤ ਦਾਰਾ ਸਿਉ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਲਗਾਈ ॥
ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਅਤੇ ਭਰਮਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਅਸੀ (ਸਹੀ ਜੀਵਨ-ਰਾਹ ਤੋਂ) ਭੁੱਲੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਾਂ, ਤੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਨਾਲ ਅਸਾਂ ਪਿਆਰ ਪਾਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ।
I am attached to Maya, and deluded by doubt; I have fallen in love with my children and spouse.

ਇਕੁ ਉਤਮ ਪੰਥੁ ਸੁਨਿਓ ਗੁਰ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਤਿਹ ਮਿਲੰਤ ਜਮ ਤ੍ਰਾਸ ਮਿਟਾਈ ॥
 ਅਸਾਂ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਾਲਾ ਇਕ ਉੱਚਾ ਰਾਹ ਸੁਣਿਆ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਅਸਾਂ ਜਮਾਂ ਦਾ ਡਰ ਮਿਟਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ । 
I have heard that the most exalted Path of all is the Sangat, the Guru's Congregation. Joining it, the fear of death is taken away.

ਇਕ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ਭਾਟ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਕੀ ਗੁਰ ਰਾਮਦਾਸ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥੪॥੫੮॥
‘ਕੀਰਤ’ ਭੱਟ ਦੀ ਹੁਣ ਇਕ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਹੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਰਾਮਦਾਸ ਜੀ! ਆਪਣੀ ਸਰਨੀ ਰੱਖੋ ।੪।੫੮।
