Proactive member of the Ukrainian electronic scene with recent appearances at Burning Man and Noir Sonores festivals, collaborations with Mixmag UK and Mixmag Ukraine, guest mixes for Bordello A Parigi and Nightclubber.ro, and a residency at Lusophonica Radio. For cozy parties on the carpet, Vlad’s selection rule is simple – pick the warmest groove for the most active feet on the dancefloor, so that everyone around joins the move.

VLAD: This recording is like a sealed jar of air, opened to almost physically sense the past. But it’s not just an illusion of memory – it carries the sharp, spicy scent of a party that took place a week before the events that changed our lives forever.

“Dragobro” – a camp at the Dobosh Hotel in Dragobrat, curated every year by the Abstract Beats community, known for the Module club, the Dnipropop label, and a series of events that have symbolized contemporary life in Dnipro for several years now. Daytime – mountains, snow, local highland food, open-air baths, riding. Nighttime – a lineup of a dozen DJs, everyone doing their best. Along with my snowboard, I brought a suitcase full of records.

That year, we were lucky to agree with the organizers to play back-to-back sets with my colleague, music researcher and full-time DJ Volodymyr Sivash, with whom I share a long-term musical symbiosis. We never pre-negotiate what to play, yet common vectors emerge instantly.

A night black with sky and white with snow, in February – ethno-disco-bass-EBM on a color-lit stage in a mountain hotel bar. It would be great to send all the authors and producers from that tracklist photos of the setting – and portraits of the passionate young faces on the dancefloor.

What was in our minds back then? Naivety. The belief that humanity had reached a phase where even a pack of wardens wouldn’t choose open violence; that the situation near Ukraine’s border was just groundless manipulation, another maneuver; that an emergency bag would never be needed. That this icy breath, fresh and unforgettable, was what truly mattered at that moment – and that all we had to do was keep going, steadily increasing the tempo of the beat.

VOLODYMYR:  This mix carries a symbolic, almost historical meaning for me. A live recording made just days before the great war, before the full-scale invasion. The final days of the old life. There will be no return to “the way it was” – I’m absolutely certain of that now.

It was a week-long trip to Dragobrat for the annual ski-and-music festival, a time when, until the very end, no one truly believed that something terrible would happen. Yet the clouds were gathering. I clearly remember how, upon arrival, we sat in a beautiful restaurant with a stunning view of the snow-covered mountains, eating borscht or banosh, and talking. Talking things through.

I don’t ski, so during the day I was reading the news, watching updates on the hotel lobby screens, and – perhaps unlike my colleagues and the large group of festival guests – I was extremely tense. But in the evening and at night, the page turned. We step behind the decks and broadcast groove and positivity – including in this very set.

The contrast was striking: daytime anxiety and stress; nighttime enthusiasm and love for life. Strange sensations. But throughout this audio journey, you will hear only the latter.
