Surgent is a four-piece death metal band from Tallinn, Estonia, blending both classic and new school with many of the personal influencers like Gojira, Scarve, Extol, and  Devin Townsend. “Any Surgent song is always crushingly heavy, mixed with odd time signatures, while still keeping melodic parts and clear song structure,” says the guitarist Jaan Varts.

After releasing their debut album in 2022, Surgent received the best metal album of the year in the Estonian Music Awards, being the first death metal band most extreme band ever to do so. 

The idea of Surgent was born in 2017 after the Estonian legendary death metal masters Horricane went on a hiatus, but both Jaan Varts and bassist Jüri Tarkpea had some new ideas they just could not let go of and started tracking for the new band. Teamed with Endrik Salak from Paean, another progressive death metal act from Estonia, and drummer Sten Loov of Ocean Districts and Kaschalot. In 2023 Sten decided to leave the band and was replaced by an emerging multi-talent Simo Atso from Intrepid, Nihilisticrypt, and Tankist.
