After three years in the pipeline, it’s about time for the @KATRAN full-time debut album: Darko Kolar of ONTAL dishes out an instant industrial techno classic, eleven tracks of no-nonsense hard-hitting assaults with four prolific guests bringing their very own sound to extend the musical range of “Above the Concrete“ in a most intriguing way. Expect no moments of rest, surrender to the force of banging repetitive power branded with a brave scrape-and-burn musical edge.
With a new version of his 2019 FORMS OF HANDS compilation track “Mirror Reflection” Darko Kolar dives straight into the driving dance floor material that he has been cutting his teeth on the half dozen KATRAN tracks released so far and takes it from there: Pristine sound design, various flavours of the almighty kick drum and traces of melodic ambience, floating above the industrial shrieks and screeches that litter the album.
The four tracks that have been produced in collaboration promise stimulating diversion: “Isolation” with Spanish DJ/producer SURIT evolves around a slow, pronounced bass line and suggests some deceptive calm, former Ad Noiseam act FAUSTEN tear up the rhythmic structure of “Envenomation” and conjure up chaos, French veterans ELEKTROPLASMA contribute some hardcore flavour to “Disruption” and “Sudden Closure” features noise legend KK NULL with uncontrollable outbursts of industrial debris.
Loop-based, repetitive industrial techno with an edge is a time-honoured and accustomed tradition that HANDS has been fostering since ORPHX’s 1999 classic “Vita Mediativa”, and “Above the Concrete” follows in those footsteps. Black Sun Records returns with a monster collaboration from Unhuman & Surit. Unhuman is best known for his contributions on labels such as Instruments Of Discipline, Liber Null & Veleno Viola among many others, his sound running the gamut between noise, power-electronics, EBM & techno; Surit is better known as one half of NX1, recently releasing some solo remixes on his own Nexe Records label and on some others. Together they deliver a powerful 4 track EP, opening with “Moral Poverty”, a perfect driving track with fat bass, metal percussion and layered pads that trap you from the very beginning; next is “Surrender”, a twisted break-cut full of character, complex yet effective, a mind-warping, beautiful journey. Turning to the B-side, the track that gives name to the EP “Impact Bashing”, delivers pure, raw, industrial- techno, oppressive, incisive & brutal. “Precipitated Paranoia”, closes the record, a higher bpm techno cut, defined by the power of the drums and held in tension by jittering, nervous synths.

Knife presenta a Surit, quien lleva una maleta con más de 15 años de experiencia en música electrónica. Más conocido como el 50% de NX1, proyecto que comenzó a finales de 2011, ha estado jugando desde principios de la década de 2000. Después de haber pasado la mitad de su vida en el negocio, Surit es un conocedor de la escena y ha alcanzado tal madurez que le permite entregar su propuesta musical de una manera potente y elegante. Sus sets entrelazan una amplia gama de estilos techno, ambientes pesados y húmedos que cubren la pista de baile, ruidos ásperos, saltos de rock y bajos gruesos son la firma de su club. Actualmente se dedica a varios proyectos musicales, como gestionar su propio sello Nexe Records, mantener el proyecto NX1 y lanzar su propio material, así como otras colaboraciones.

Knife presents Surit who carries a suitcase containing more than 15 years of experience in electronic music. Better known as the 50% of NX1, project which started at the end of 2011, he's been playing around since the early 2000s. After being half of his life in the business Surit is a connoisseur of the scene and has reached such maturity that allows him to deliver his music proposal in a powerful and elegant way. His sets entwine a wide range techno styles, heavy and wet atmospheres which cover the dance floor, harsh noises, rocking breaks and fat basses are his club show signature. Nowadays he is engaged in various musical projects such as managing his own label Nexe Records, keeping the NX1 project and releasing his own material as well as some other collaborations.
