We are excited to premiere such an energetic track pooling the talents of two exciting  producers. Divorce from New York and Hector Plimmer. 

We first encountered Divorce from New York as one half of soulful San Sebastian based production duo, Reykjavik606. Ahead of his frankly excellent ‘This Ain’t Jazz No More’, South London producer, DJ & composer Hector Plimmer has taken "Formula Paraiso" in a decidedly jungle & footwork inspired direction that swept us away on first listen, taking us on a journey for mind and body.

On  ‘This Ain’t Jazz No More’, Alvaro Granda, aka Divorce from New York, works broken beat leaning production into uplifting and syncopated sounds, sprinkling healthy pinches of jungle, house and jazz for extra flavour. ‘This Ain’t Jazz No More’ was inspired by the birth of his new born son, particularly the newly streamlined workflow we had to assume. 

With a fresh optimistic outlook and sampling-focused approach, Alvaro baked a batch of jazz-infused dancefloor ready bangers. Delving into his record collection for breaks, sculpting propulsive percussion, soulful keywork and heart tugging strings. Constructing an album that will work both as well at home as a smokey basement club. Hector Plimmer tells us more about his remix: 

“I’m always looking for the little details whilst listening out for a track to remix. The original track had plenty of things that caught my ear for me to play with & add my own spin on. I definitely wanted to keep hold of the rolling drum breaks but also wanted to add another layer of deepness, reaching back into the energy of more of the dance genres that have attracted me in the past. The lush chords also attracted me to the track, which I worked with just a little bit to get a different effect & sound from. I’m really happy with how this one came together, I think it took a day or so to complete because I was having so much fun! I was a massive fan of Reykiavik 606’s 'Endless Summer In Peckham’ EP so it was nice for me to hear the progression into the Divorce from New York project.”

Lee Gamble is a UK-based artist and electronic music producer with roots in the original jungle-techno and extreme computer music fields. In 2012 he released a couple of highly acclaimed records via PAN, 'Dutch Tvashar Plumes' and 'Diversions 1994-1996', that refracted dancefloor and home-listening dimensions into trippy new head-spaces which touched a raw nerve with ravers young and old(er). He's since expanded those records into live audio-visual performance with fellow CYRK collective founder Dave Gaskarth and continues monthly broadcasts of his NTS radio show. 

The 'Kuang' EP heralds the release of Gamble's keenly awaited 2nd LP 'KOCH' (due September '14) with three tracks of dissociative ambient/techno. 'Kali Wave' opens with a bittersweet breakbeat roller sounding something like early AGCG playing in a hall of mirrors, whereas 'Mimas Skank' diffuses oily acid and dry dub techno inna dancefloor wormhole, and the detached ambient drift of 'Girl Drop' rends a gasp of post-rave bliss into twelve minutes of spectral sublime or precipitous dread, depending on your perspective.

The first relese to kick off Clubwerks, Origami Sound's imprint dedicated to distinctive, genre-free club material is by a 19 year old French prodigy who grew up in Manchester and is currently studying Jazz Performance at the prestigious Julliard University in NYC - JAONA, one of the most exciting producers to join our crew of hugely gifted new talent. 

The difference between average producers and great ones consists in knowing how to arrange melodic and rhythmic stimuli in extraordinary ways; our boy JAONA is a champion at conjuring the most refined sensorial scenery inside each of his tracks and have fun with it too. All the music on this EP is entirely stand-alone, furiously creative and catchy in the most subtle ways. 

This mini-album should be more than enough to get an idea of what Clubwerks is about.

Surkin and Bobmo are originally from Southern France, respectively Avignon and Bordeaux, and they were still living there when they decided to launch their duo project High Powered Boys about 5 or 6 years ago. They both followed successful solo careers, spinning all over the world, in underground Japanese clubs as well as huge Euro festivals, and have been mostly releasing their material on Institubes so far, and dozens of remixes over the years. Oh and a Surkin LP is to be released on Marble in september. 

The boys have been settled in Paris for some years now and still pursue their collaboration, as shown on recent Sound Pellegrino release « Udon/Work », and right now on the third Marble installment, called « Girly/Crash ». Pushing further the riddim-based freakish bipolarity of « Udon », those two tracks are sure gonna cause mayhem on dancefloors, but in an alien, psychoactive way. 

« Girly » is a juke-influenced beat led by insane bleepy hi-toms and a start-stop groove that claps and shakes like nothing else before except that lady with the Louise Brooks haircut in the video for Sean Paul’s Get Busy. Synthhorns breaks and digi-whistles make this monster track even more vicious and angular-grooved, yet totally overwhelming. This is mental body music at its best, straightly aimed towards the future but not really making a whole thing about it – this is actually pretty sparse, minimalistic music. This is not even recommended : this is necessary listening. 

« Crash » begins with E’d-up, old school UK style bleepy melody and washes, plus some equally hazy-eyed vocal bits, then breaks into a rushing, stiff Funky riddim without all the flowing, easy vibe usually heard within the genre – instead, this is kevlar-plated bass stabs and psychic-ward arpeggios all around, both giving the tune a strong dystopian flavour. Then it goes back to the defunct utopia, but then goes back again to the dark side, setting a mechanically hypersyncopated feeling to the beat. Distinct bipolarity here, most definitely.

Soft Talk is the latest alias that Natal Zaks - our longtime Danish friend and a musician we've been constantly releasing under different monikers throughout the last 5 years - picked out for us. He is hands down the most talented producer we've ever met and it's always a privilege to be able release his music under any name he chooses. We've seen his music go through many transformations and they were always for the best. This time we feel exactly the same - that this is our favorite music ever and we'll never want to release anything else again. That's never true of course, but the Mercy EP does feel a lot like that.

Natal debuts his Soft Talk project on Origami Sound, where he also released under Aebeloe, Escar, half of Averos and many more aliases. He is currently part of the immensely talented Regelbau collective from Aarhus, Denmark as well as one of the people behind Help Recordings. His consistency in quality and the depth of musical understanding he displays is astonishing and we'll be happy to finally see him out there in the 'circuit', gigging and releasing his gems on some of our favorite labels.

Each of the 4 tracks on this 12" has its unique background story - for example Radar went through many takes on an old analog device that Natal's university had in a studio - and we love all 4 just as much. This music is so tangible, so easy to single out and so rewarding upon listening or playing that we don't even want to give it away. But then again, that's what we love most about great music.
