Heavyweight odes to the UK hardcore continuum from Tallinn via Toronto label Surve Records. The collaborative project of Dima Disk is shaped by bass, breaks, metallic percussion and the kind of background synth washes found on early dubstep, UKG and Metalheadz records alike. With a clear penchant for the colder, more alien variety of 5am warehouse rollers than those on a soulful tip, the duo of Ragnar Rahuoja and Robert Nikolajev waste no time setting the tone for their first EP since 2017s Fetty on the in-house label of electronic music vanguards Rubadub.

Showing an evolution in both production and palette, Pahakas retains the concern for chest-rattling soundsystem pressure but advances on the slightly lo-fi sound design of the pairs last outing. The ‘Feel the sound’ sample clatters around razor sharp, 130bpm + breakbeats and a rolling sub that nods to golden era Peverelist on opening cut ‘U R A Gem’. On ‘Betty’ and ‘MLBT’ the more spacey, ambient end of the genre are given a look but retain the overall atmosphere of the EP whilst ‘2kSamba’ ups the tempo and leans toward a mutant hybrid of early 2000s UK prog and contemporary bass music. Mixing chopped samples, wigged-out FM synthesis and lots of saturation. Representing an aesthetic and sound we currently love to hear in the club: Heavy bass sounds, wide stereo fields and an arrangement which keeps you guessing.

@clubwinston's conjured a bittersweet take on eurodance complete with vocal support from Bo Ningen lead singer @taigenkawabe.

‘OK Enough’ plots a playful route through new age and eurodance zones without feeling like an exercise in kitsch. Tear-jerk dancefloor manoeuvres teeming with playful effervescence.

Pairing Kawabe’s auto-tuned vocals with an earworm synth hook that can't help but draw comparisons with ‘90s Vengaboys, our premiere is never in danger of taking itself too seriously

Premiere: Club Winston - OK (feat. Taigen Kawabe)

Based out of Seville, Spain, Clare Durant & Hartta are one of the freshest collaborations to emerge in the scene, launching London based record label Oddities’ debut release.

Their “Photoshoot” EP  encapsulates all things odd and wonderful, flowing effortlessly through cerebral 4x4, zany breakbeat and glitchy UK bass. This varied 3 tracker attacks sound systems universally and demonstrates the diversity of their production arsenal. 

Founder of the club night and label Bleach & Moan, Clare Durant began her DJing journey in 2023, supporting the likes of DJ MELL G, Nikki Nair, Nite Fleit and more.. As Dead Trax head honcho and member of the group Sabasonik, Hartta boasts releases on imprints such as Banoffee Pies Records, 3 Feet Deep and Outhouse Sounds amongst others.

Their debut collaborative EP is set to release on 7th June, 2024 via Oddities Bandcamp and across all major platforms.

CLARE DURANT & HARTTA - PHOTOSHOOT EP [ODD001] (CLIPS)

Londoner Joe Milli joins the Faux Poly family this summer with his instantly classic EP Manifest Leisure. As a long-standing staple of Peckham's music scene, Joe has held down residencies at Tola, Balamii, Rinse FM, and now SWU.FM, along with hosting a packed out in-store party at Planet Wax earlier this year.

Joe's sound is based upon Techno and UK Funky through and through. His radio shows and DJ sets reflect an eclectic taste, branching confidently from these genres, perfectly encapsulated on this release.

Together at the end of 2023, all four tracks rely heavily on the Vermona Mono Lancet bass synth along with steady drum-tool like rhythm, always shining a light on the delivery: super playable club music that isn't overworked. Spanning Techno & Bass, there's a proper UK Funky groove embedded throughout the whole EP.
