I felt it was important to pen some sort of statement about the "culture of cold-heartedness" that seems to saturate human ethics in many ways. I wanted to focus on the notion that male "bravado" seems to be a driving factor in the objectivism we have adopted of late.  My mission is animal welfare, and the song begins there, but it follows that the same ethic of compassion extends to all corners of our lives ...
I started with the title and the rest just fell into place when I presented my vision to my amazing co-writer, Dave Roppolo.  The story in the song is told from the perspective of a young man who is realizing this view at a gut level as his life unfolds ...

"Although I had nothing to do with the writing of this song, I wanted it to be part of the collection. Celia and I have been friends and writing partners for years and we both share a tremendous love and respect for animals we share our planet with. A few years ago we had written up a program called "It's Not Cool to be Cruel" that we were planning on taking into schools to teach children about pet responsibility. Unfortunately, we never got the project off the ground. This was one of the songs that was to be part of that program. It's always been one of my favorites!"

I wrote this song with my songwriting partner Dave Roppolo to honor all us who have dealt with a family member suffering from Alzheimer's Disease. Pray for the Caretaker. Pray for a cure.

This song was written back in the early 90's when I first became involved in the world of animal rights. It got some air play on a couple of college stations back then. Humans are the cruelest species! We know better but we don't always do better!
