Madeaux makes his Fool’s Gold debut with the perfectly-titled New Wav EP, reshaping North American dance music in his own image and injecting a needed dose of synth pop realness in the process. The six EP tracks are a wildly diverse bunch, connecting the dots between decades of inspirations. “Kill For Me” bangs like a lost Depeche Mode anthem, while A-Trak collab “Lost In Translation” is the unexpected warehouse jam of the year. Nowhere are these genre-splices more powerful than on New Wav’s title track, where Madeaux flips Kaleena Zanders’ postmodern diva vocals over high-NRG synths and a Miami bass-gone-Berlin drop. The tide is high for this one, and the future most definitely belongs to Madeaux.

Porta Alpina is the follow up to Lex, the brilliant debut EP from Transmission Collective. Featuring two original tracks from one third of the collective, Maru, along with remixes from the other two thirds, Kahwe and Wolf Cub, it further showcases the trio’s forward thinking, soulful take on house music. 

Porta combines a shimmering melody with a contemporary take on old school house percussion, wound together beautifully around an infectious vocal sample – all you have to do is say yes. Second track Alpina is another slick piece of deep, dancefloor friendly house music, effortlessly blending dreamy vocal snippets with punchy percussion and some killer low end to create an absolute bomb.

On remix duties are label co-chiefs Kahwe and Wolf Cub, who remix Porta and Alpina respectively. Kahwe highlights the peak-time potential of Porta with his remix, kicking the percussion up a notch and twisting the vocal sample in the brilliant breakdown. Meanwhile Wolf Cub takes things deeper with his take on Alpina, stripping it bare before the brooding bass stabs kick back in to turn the track into a serious late night jam.

Eton Messy Records kicks off 2021 with an almighty bang, thanks to this first taste of Mona Vale’s forthcoming EP, ‘Solis’; a sprawling and quite exceptional 4 track debut, due to land on the Bristol imprint, late Spring.

Up first is the EP’s namesake, a track which begins life as a simple, breezy House loop, underpinned by deep, funk-flecked bass.....that is until a gated snare ushers in the track’s true centrepiece upon 2 mins - a dynamite duo of cut-up brass samples and synthetic horn sections, which when combined with the opening instrumental groove attack - results in a quite magical, yet fiercely effective dance-floor oddity. One that will be begging to be let out the traps, the very moment late night gatherings are a thing once more.
