V/A - Tessera II

Like seasons, we evolve, and this has never felt more true for us - musically, personally, professionally. We embrace it all; the light and the shadow. 

This will mark the start of a new series reflecting transformation through the union of seasons and sound. It is music that embodies the spirit of each season we move through, alongside the range of sounds that continue to define our path.

This first mix is built around Autumn, a season that carries us through to darker and cosier hours.

The Hours Between

Through tracks and genres spanning from different eras, Parchi Pubblici takes us on a journey whose common denominator is introspection and an insistent, almost repetitive rhythm, gradually leading us into oblivion, with a few flashes of light.

This channel has always been more about affluence than influence. A place of rhythmic abundance and melodic opulence that simply aims at being a steady link between artists and audience in order to maintain a vast musical ecosystem that thrives across the globe. Nevertheless, it is but one among many forms through which our collective manifests its quintessential purpose of connecting the basic elements of the musical experience. This multifarious presence allowed us to nurture an extensive network of likeminded, gifted and prolific talent across many platforms. Some of these have traced their path across locations as diverse as the origins and destinations of the sounds we disseminate here, boasting an itinerary that crisscrosses some of the main cities where cutting edge dance music is prolifically made and properly enjoyed. A Brazilian native, Alexia Glensy has called many places her home and embraced many genres as her own through the years, both having played a crucial role in informing her tastes and shaping her talents to the eclectic excellence she presents in the blinding mix that graces our current episode. One that is itself an accurate metaphor for her trajectory, a perfect example of her sound and a precious addition to the series.

The London-via-Bilbao DJ marks 15 years of Cartulis with two hours of punchy techno and electro, recorded live at FOLD.

When you think of London label and party Cartulis, dark, muscular electro and tough tech house spring to mind. But the name is more revealing than it first appears: in founder Unai Trotti's native Bilbao dialect, cartulis translates to "nerd." Like any labour of love, the project is driven by a deep, obsessive dedication, centred around sound, mood and community. 

Recorded at Cartulis' 15th anniversary party this autumn, RA.1017 captures why Trotti is such a compelling DJ. Playing only vinyl, he has a deft ability to balance functional club pressure with more leftfield selections, and as he outlines in his Q&A below, it comes from a belief in creative limitation, committing to a finite set of records and trusting instinct over abundance. 

Across the two hours, there are plenty of big, physical tracks built for the dance floor, but also some genuinely strange, confrontational stretches. Around the 15-minute mark, church bells ring out as a gothic female vocal looms overhead—David Lynch, if he needed an electro soundtrack. It's the kind of material you only hear at parties where dancers feel truly at ease, unafraid of the weird. That's Cartulis.
