"Five years after the first volume, ARENA01, Agva Records is back with ARENA02, a mega-pack of almost forty tracks focusing on the experimental and hybrid club scene of Latin America.

Released in 2016, the first chapter laid the foundations of the label and unveiled a solid tracklisting composed of close and local members of the collective (Defensa, EL PLVYBXY, CHLO…) and international producers (King Doudou, Bigote).

For this second edition, the label did not go easy and gathered a real festival line-up. ARENA02 features projects from all over the continent and beyond, from emerging artists to real headliners: Dengue Dengue Dengue, Lao (NAAFI, Mexico), Bungalovv (TRRUENO, Argentina), Endgame (Precious Metal, UK), Catnapp, Doxxed, Pobvio, or even the Mexican producer who signed the revival of pre-Hispanic tribal, Ozomatecuhtli. On the B-side, 6 remixes deepen the sonic palette of the dreamy landscapes showcased on the other side. Alon.e dwelves into trancy synths and an IDM/trip-hopish groove for his version of Super Yellow Juice. Le Frit reconstructs Nunca Esperei por Ti. into a low-key, delicate and psychedelic dembow track. H2O gives a new life to Bamboo Flute with a playful version halfways between dub and synthwave. Guillerrrmo, straight from Manaus, member of São Paulo’s Mamba Negra, distorts the same track into a slow and powerful breakbeat heater. Manchester’s Obeka delivers a mesmerizing dancehall remix of Bury me, with Love, inspired by the track’s heady synths. Last but not least, Ditti re-harmonizes Escadarias into a colorful and quirky reinterpretation.

Peruvian producer Tribilin Sound was one of the artists at the forefront of the booming digital cumbia and global bass scenes in his country and now the Eck Echo label is about to pay tribute to his influential work by taking a deep dive into his catalogue - and giving it an extra little twist. 'Jalea Mixta' gathers some of the finest Latin American producers around - including Dengue Dengue Dengue, Loris, Mente Orgánica, Chancha via Circuito and more - who were invited to rework one of Tribilin Sounds' tracks from the past. Among them is 'Bilongo Con Sandunga', a song originally released on 'Aquí Siempre Bailamos' album back in 2014, which has now been remixed by Argentinian artist Tayhana who changed the original cumbia tune into a frenetic feast.

"Abran Cancha", a cry that demands open space for either performance, competitive sports or gymnastic stunts, is the name of the second EP by the Buenos Aires-based project.

As all beautiful workflows evolve, Ignacio La Conga organically became a production team as a whole, where each member brings their influences to the common playground creating well-defined soundscapes from the lowest latitudes of the southern hemisphere.

Raging yet sensible, gloomy but sparky, cinematic still danceable, modern and ancient sounds complement an album that holds Ignacio's presentation card to the world, dealt at the table of the Eck Echo house.

Los Defensores - Pandilla (Dengue Dengue Dengue Remix) taken from Humos EP Vol. 3, the last part of the vinyl release series celebrating 10th anniversary of @dengue 

The story of this track dates back to 2015 when during my stay in Peru I got to spend a week in Lamas, a lovely town in the Peruvian part of the Amazon rainforest. One day, while waiting for food in the nearby village called Tabalosos, I suddenly heard very raw and intensive music based on fast percussive rhythms that seemed endless. Until that point I was rather surrounded by salsa, cumbia, reggaeton and música criolla so such vigorous sound came to me as a total shock and got me hooked instantly. It turned out that this music was pandilla, a queen of Amazonian folklore.

Thanks to Nelly Valverde and her family I got my hands on a CD filled with over eight hours of pandilla recordings. Fortunately I kept it safe, subconsciously understanding the great value of this material. Few months later I started Basy Tropikalne (back then operating simply as a radio show only) and some time after that I began searching for information about pandilla - which turned out to be almost nonexistent in English and very limited even in Spanish. I fantasized how amazing it would be to translate it into electronic music and hence introduce a new, completely fresh genre. In order to be culturally consistent I thought that it should be done by Peruvian producers - and when you think of electronic music and Peru, Dengue Dengue Dengue come into your head first.

Amazingly enough, the duo liked the idea and after our first meeting in real life in early 2018 it became clear that the project will be continued. It was firstly announced to the public later that year when Dengue Dengue Dengue got to perform at the opening night of the world-renowned Unsound Festival with a special show that focused on this concept of pandilla explorations - it was the first time that this genre was presented to a broader audience outside of Peru.

The track that we are premiering here opens another chapter by showcasing pandilla in the environment of electronic music within an official release. It was based on the recording of a group from Tarapoto called Los Defensores and it cleverly highlights the crucial elements of the genre - melodies played on wind instrument in very high notes and steady percussive sections - turning the song into a mesmerizing gem.
