The School of Global Studies was founded in 2009, bringing together the departments of Anthropology, Geography and International Relations and a cross-disciplinary programme in International Development.

Global Studies grew out of earlier interdisciplinary formations at the University of Sussex, a strong influence being the legendary School of African and Asian Studies- AFRAS.
