Inspired by one of my favourite violin pieces 'Hebrew Melody' by Joseph Achron, this composition was created using improvisation on violin. It also features organ, viola and cello.

I spent my final semester of journalism studying at the University of Texas at Austin. 'In Translation' uses sounds collected and recorded during my exchange experience and includes techniques I learnt while taking Intermediate Electronic Composition.

In Translation (electronic music composition)

Three key architectural concepts underpin Sydney’s Quay Quarter project: rotating stacked volumes, vertical villages and sky terraces. These ideas form the basis of the three distinct sections that make up my piece. Each was used as inspiration and in an attempt to pair the music with the ambitions of this innovative building. 
 
For me, the ‘Vertical Villages’ (1:16) symbolise the humanity of the building project, both in its construction and what they envisage the building will become. I also wanted to represent the contrast between the built and natural landscape. The recordings of metal nails, wires and ribbons are transformed into sounds that you may associate with nature, mainly in the first and final sections - ‘Rotating Volumes’ and ‘Sky Terraces’ (2:24).
