I love this song - been reading wizard of oz, and the friends go into these poppy fields and are drugged by their scent - esp the lion -  beautifully sung, and a haunting melody and lyricism

Those labyrinthine poppy fields of the psyche are certainly an enigma, something so beautifully travelled here.  Gorgeous vocal, Suzanne...and a great live recording by Frank.

Cool, Soundcloud is apparently recommending more older songs in their algorithm, and the algorithm definitly made a brilliant choice. Beautiful song, SuZanne!

I wrote this song after an in-depth conversation with my mother who spent years searching for her mother.  It's in 7/8; perhaps reflecting the irregularity of relationships.

The title "Ballad for Alma" reminded me of an episode in the Book of Mormon, where the son of a presiding high priest went among the people, telling them to disbelief his father. Here I imagined what could be the father thoughts, with a small meditation on the nature of hope, faith, and charity.

There are conflicting legends relating to which lake Turgeis the Norwegian warrier who persecuted Christians was drowned in at the hands of King Malachy.
The Annals of the Four Masters states that after he had plundered Connaught and Meath and burned Clonmacnoise that he was taken prisoner by Maelseachlainn, son of Maelruainaidh and afterwards drowned in Loch-Uair.
Local oral tradition states that Turgesius was rolled down The Captains Hill in a barrell into the waters of Loug Owel.

The púca, meaning 'goblin', can be malevolent or benevolent and is not solely associated with Halloween. It's a mythological fairy and the ultimate shapeshifter, capable of appearing in a variety of forms but most commonly as a dark horse or part dog.

In the Northern Hemisphere, the Winter Solstice occurs on 21 or 22 December, when the sun shines directly over the tropic of Capricorn. At sunrise on the shortest day of the year, for 17 minutes, direct sunlight can enter the Newgrange monument, not through the doorway, but through the specially contrived small opening above the entrance known as the ‘roof box’, to illuminate the Chamber.
