One of my absolute favorite summer activities is longboarding while jamming to my favorite tunes. There is just nothing like going on a skate adventure on a warm day under a blue sky, encountering whatever the world throws your way, all while just cruising past the hustle and bustle. I'd been toying around with making a skating set for a few years at this point; some of the earliest playlists I ever made was just so I could enjoy the flow of great tracks while in that blissful zoned state! I also considered where I should skate for the visuals, and decided that Washington DC would be best. When I worked in the city I would skate every day during lunch, so I already had a few routes I thought would both be fun to relive as well as an opportunity to give people around the world a first-person city tour. The set progresses from starting with the hustle and bustle of the busy city center,  then switches over to some feel-good dnb travelling around the Mall, which grows into a number of  heaver tracks to capture the tension of skating on unknown grounds before resolving into the afterglow of an afternoon well spent. 

Like my other sets, there are some deeper messages hidden into the song selection and music. Feel free to explore it as deeply as you'd like, or skim the waves on the surface while feeling the wind on your face! I hope you enjoy!

This was honestly some of the most fun I've had in creating a set, both musically and artistically. When mercury.lamp invited me to play in re;load, I knew it was finally time to bust out a bunch of the tracks I've been wanting to play and tell a story I've been waiting to tell. I also had the chance to create some really cool stuff with some of my favorite electronic songs from long ago, and the layering and mashups were incredibly fun to discover and craft. I have too many favorite transitions to list here, but my favorite mashup this time around was Ejection x Just Be. I felt like it was something really special.

If you have the time, please watch the video submission; it was the first time I have ever created my own visuals and it really gave me a chance to further elaborate on the messages of the music. I went from being eternally bad with computers to making my own visuals in a week; you can see how things improve throughout the set as I became more familiar with the software. There are a lot of motifs throughout, and I was very selective about which scenes and shows to use for the set. While I utilized scenes from shows that the songs were from, the non-anime songs posed a bit of a challenge to ensure that things progressed smoothly not only with the music and the message, but also the previous visual depiction. If you've seen Mushishi, Katanagari, GitS, Spice & Wolf, Ergo Proxy, RahXephon, the Monogatari Series, Call of the Night, Sonny Boy, Wolf's Rain, Tatami Galaxy, and Lain, you're ready to fully experience what I attempted to convey. Of course, even if you haven't seen all (or any!) of these shows (Watch them, they're great!), I think it still gets the message across.

I was super excited to receive an invitation from Neodash to participate in my first-ever J-Core Live event! The JCL community is honestly top notch; not only is it filled with incredible producers, DJs, and long-time members of the J-Core scene in general, but more importantly it's packed with incredibly kind and supportive people who, at the core of everything, want to support and celebrate the music they love. Uprising in particular was an event centered around DJs who have never played in a JCL event, so I decided on making a set that was akin to Suzu in three parts, while also showcasing a few of my favorite transitions from over the past few years. I knew ahead of time that everyone was going to play FAST and HARD music for the most part, so I took a bit of a chance to have a few bpm shifts throughout the set in hopes of providing a bit of variety that I felt like the community would enjoy. While I wasn't aware that I would be closing out the event, it seemed to work out perfectly to wrap up the incredibly fun-filled 11+ hour stream. If I'm lucky enough to get another invitation to play with them in the future, I'm certainly going to try and craft something a bit faster and heavier next time around! European fans and DJs have it tough; most online events involving Japanese music are typically at ungodly hours, making it really difficult to catch any streams. Hence the idea for Eurojack! The idea was to celebrate the European community at a reasonable time for them to enjoy the music and DJs they love! As the only DJ on the wrong side of the Atlantic for this event, I thought I'd make a Eurobeat set to fit in! This is actually my first event set that I've done that is exclusively one genre; it was challenging at times to create a story with a significantly reduced bank of songs to choose from, but luckily there are so many amazing Eurobeat tracks out there that I was able to find a way! Normally I shy away from remixes that feature vocalists that are noticeably different from the original songs, but for Eurobeat in particular I don't mind it as much as it's part of the history of the genre. I was a bit concerned about closing the event with such a high-energy genre, but in the end it seems like my worries were unnecessary.  I hope you enjoy!
