This was my first spoken word recording of my poetry.  I was really nervous about recording my voice, but I'm so glad I got into these readings, it's given me a lot of confidence in not only speaking poetry, but in how I write and what I write. Relaxing Rain Sounds

I'm not quite sure where I got the idea for this, it started out as a whimsical poem about autumn turning to winter, and as I wrote I realised that there was a connection between this time of year, the way the weather changes and how the plants are closing down, bits falling away and discarded, similar in some ways to change in a human lifetime, and often it’s the kind of change we don’t really like. We've probably all experienced bullying at some time in our life, but I find today when it comes to bully mentality (especially those annoying internet trolls or fake friends who later turn out to be very much 'not' your friend) their critical words just roll off my back like water.   Keep on trolling, keep attacking...sorry...waste of time!

he has climbed within my bones

he counts every bruise

It seems in life we can progress in one area, be totally winning, and yet losing twice as much in another direction... everything can feel very unreal... this is what this poem is about.

i am walking in the meadow
light in step… laughing
dismissive of stately monsters
and wicked things
nothing touches me now

there are no giants here
none who dare take me on
their poison speech… a shattered bone
pointed arrows six feet under

stillness thrives a little too much
solitary… in my garden
i am all unnatural
concealing how i’ve learned to drown

can anyone see how it happens
how easy it is
to sink in a waterless world
free of monsters and arrows

lightly i wade in the meadow
seeds of laughter fall to the earth
i tell myself nothing is ever real
i am always… always dreaming
