The second instalment has arrived, selected and mixed by Madrid-based producer, club veteran, and music connoisseur @alvarocabana. He is head chef at @rotten-city-records, a label dealing with the darker and psychedelic territories of disco, wave, and related. As a frequent visitor to South America, I met him playing a gig at our beloved (ex) local club @fuga_lima back in 2018 and shared some good tunes and memories with him and the local crew until later that morning..

For the KS selector series he prepared an eclectic slo-mo set of darker material, explicitly prescribing you to sink into the depths of your sofa, trail off to another dimension, or worship the first rays of sun at 6am. Enjoy!

Estamos muy orgullosos de empezar el proyecto de Honest Allies con su ecléctica selección de música, en un set marcado por sonidos tribales y orientales, pasando por el italo y el indie dance.

Miimo is one part of the crew and label Hard Fist, that we could meet during the label night at Ballesta Club in february. We are so proud of starting our Honest Allies project with his eclectic musical selection, in a mix based on italo and indie dance, with tribal and oriental rhythms.

HONEST ALLIES #001 // Miimo (Hard Fist)

Ex-member of the Madrid-based band Fira Fem (Aloud, Subterfuge), with whom he played at some Spanish festivals like Sónar, Primavera Sound, FIB, SOS or BBK, Manu Cachero hides under the moniker JackWasFaster to explore his devotion for electronic music.

In his DJ sets, live acts and productions, the artist focuses on exploring the most synthetic face of Disco, as well as Post-Electronic, Dark Balearic Wave, Post-Punk heritage, or the rawest and the most underground Acid music.

Participant to the 2015 Madrid edition of the Red Bull Music Academy Bass Camp, he has issued releases and remixes for labels such as Rotten City, Nein, Factor City, Aylevs, Playground, Quantistic, Emerald & Doreen or Esthétique, both by himself or alongside Álvaro Cabana or Talktome (as Jacktome).

His tracks have been played and supported by Andrew Weatherall, Eskimo Twins, Timothy Clerkin, Mugwump, Sean Johnston, Javi Redondo, Curses, Massimiliano Pagliara, Bird of Paradise, Amevicious, Leonor, Álvaro Cabana, Club Bizarre, Gameboyz, or JP Soul.

The positive reception of his releases and a solid hardware-based live set got him to play at festivals such as Sónar, FIB, Brunch In The Park, Paraíso, Electrosplash or UVA, in addition to clubs such as Mondo (Madrid) and Razzmatazz (Barcelona).

During COVID times, he keeps on producing tracks for Inflect (UK) as well as Rotten City and working on a new project, named Indies With Microkorgs, showing his more industrial and experimental side.

Hoy tenemos la suerte de lanzar una nueva sesión de una figura de referencia en la escena musical madrileña, y que ha sido, y es, un icono para nosotros. @alvarocabana nos graba esta sesión de influencias y selecciones, repleta de sonidos alternativos y experimentales con carácter noventero. Electrónica, post rock, neofolk , psicodelia entre otros.

Para quien no lo conozca, Álvaro es uno de los perfiles más importantes en el clubbing madrileño, con residencias en clubes como Coppelia, Rubble! o Mondo Disko. Sin aferrarse a un único género musical, en sus sets, llenos de energía heredada del House y el Techno, podemos encontrar influencias New Wave, EBM, sonidos exóticos del mundo, el lado más ‘Leftfield’ de la música disco, o reminiscencias post punk, todo ello aderezado con altas dosis de psicodelia, ritmos a baja combustión y siempre jugando con el factor sorpresa en la pista de baile consiguiendo lo que no todos consiguen, que tanto fanáticos como neófitos terminen disfrutando de su discurso musical.

Es también el dueño del conocido sello Rotten City Records, en el que acaba de publicar EP uno de los Honest Allies, Lebollet, así como figuras del clubbin tan importantes como Bawrut, Vox Low, Daniel Kyo, Roe Deers, Damon Jee, Cannibal Ink, Dj Rocca, y un sinfín de artistas nacionales e internacionales. 
Como productor, Álvaro siempre ha mostrado su gusto por la colaboración con diferentes artistas. Con Marcos In Dub formó el dúo Los López en 2012, lanzando algunos temas originales y remixes en sellos como Days Of Being Wild, Nein y Blindetonation.
En 2017 se embarca en una nueva aventura formando la banda D.Y.O.R. (junto con Ruben Kielmansegge y Christian C), actualmente es miembro de otro proyecto junto con el reconocido productor y DJ francés Damon Jee, uniendo fuerzas para crear Holographic Planes, un proyecto con el cual han remezclado a Vox Low y Cabaret Nocturne además de lanzar un EP en Critical Monday (remezclado por Jennifer Cardini) y otro tema original en 12" en el sello de Curses, Ombra International.

Today we are lucky enough to launch a new session by a leading figure in the Madrid music scene, who has been, and still is, an icon for us. Alvaro Cabana records this session of influences and selections, full of alternative and experimental sounds with a 90's character. Electronic, post rock, neofolk, psychedelia among others.

For those who don't know him, Álvaro is one of the most important figures in Madrid clubbing, with residencies in clubs like Coppelia, Rubble! or Mondo Disko. Without sticking in a single musical genre, in his sets, full of energy inherited from House and Techno, we can find New Wave influences, EBM, exotic sounds of the world, the more 'Leftfield' side of disco, or post punk reminiscences, everything seasoned with high doses of psychedelia, low combustion rhythms.

He is also the owner of the well-known label Rotten City Records, on which one of the Honest Allies, Lebollet, has just released an EP, as well as clubbin figures as important as Bawrut, Vox Low, Daniel Kyo, Roe Deers, Damon Jee, Cannibal Ink, Dj Rocca, and an endless number of national and international artists.
As a producer, Álvaro has always liked collaborating with different artists. He formed the duo Los López with Marcos In Dub in 2012, releasing some original tracks and remixes on labels such as Days Of Being Wild, Nein and Blindetonation.
In 2017 he embarks on a new adventure, forming the band D.Y.O.R. (together with Ruben Kielmansegge and Christian C). Cantor began to produce and to live-performing Techno in the early '90s after he naturally converted from punk and indie, inspired by Industrial and Detroit productions. His music encompasses sounds coming from Italo Disco, Detroit Techno, Punk and New Wave. Passionate about vinyl editions, he also actively re-issues music from other labels. Today he is based in San Jose, California, where he operates in the software industry and runs his label, Underground Pacific. Cantor work has been released on influential labels such as Trafico Music, Correspondant, Motordiscs, Nothing Is Real, Emerald & Doreen and, of course, Underground Pacific.

Starting his love for music at a very young age through a collection of trance CDs, Calvin Damen or simply Cal always wanted to spread the love for dance music. The Dutch DJ started playing at house parties and illegal raves together with friends when he came in contact with the electronic music collective MiniCulture. Now he runs the collective together with a group of like-minded friends and DJs. MiniCulture began to grow and more parties and raves came out of the ground. People talk about a certain “vibe” that comes along on the dance floor at their parties. With highlights like the annual hosting of a stage on the Liberation Day Festival in Wageningen, the collective shows their passion and feel for underground clubbing music.

Cal began to develop a style of his own when he got the chance to share his particular selection of music. With an influence that floats between Italo Disco, Downbeat, Electro, Wave, and Trance music, he likes to play with the energy of tracks to create a certain surprise.
