Hi, Welcome to Dark Sessions, today is Thursday, April 1 of 2021. On our third episode we present our first international guest. Roma Zuckerman is a Dj and producer from Siberia, Rusia. He is part of Trip Recordings, label runned by Nina Kraviz, on which he recently released his latest album Stage of Loyalty, were tracks such as Disposition, Frequency Hole 4, I like you, among others, stand out. Zuckerman is characterized by its trippy, minimalistic, mental, and groovy sounds. Enjoy it.

She also owns a residency  'Revolt Techno'  an underground techno formation based in Sofia Bulgaria .She is the founder of "we R special" an underground techno formation based in istanbul Turkey. Gündüz, includes minimal , drone , proper ,ambient, abstract, hypnotic,driving techno,electro ,dnb, ibm tracks in her sets.

If we talk about Paula Cazenave, we talk about Techno and a long career.

Born in San Sebastian-Donostia (North of Spain) and settled in Barcelona since 2003, Paula has been walking her case since the late 90s through the best venues and festivals in Spain, Europe and South America, highlighting her presence in such important events as Awakenings, DGTL, Brunch in the Park, Dreambeach, Aquasella ...

As an artist, we find ourselves before a real DJ, without frills. Her sessions are built in the purest old school style: Technique, fast and smart mixes, versatility and eclecticism. She is characterized by hooking the listener on a journey without rest that can encompass everything from groove to dark and raw sounds, always with that unmistakable signature. We cannot classify Paula in a specific Techno sub-style, but we can say that we are talking, most of the time, of forcefulness. From her beginnings, she was influenced from artists as diverse as James Ruskin, The Advent, Ben Sims, Surgeon or Slam, to name a few. We are talking about an artist in constant evolution who has known how to adapt to the times, always faithful to Techno.

In her role as a producer, we go back to the middle of 2000, when she began to edit Techno productions on vinyl in the international market. Her works during the past decades alone and with A. Professor with other akas such as Daisychain and Secret Labz paid off, thus achieving a more important place on the international scene with European tours and major festivals. It is also worth mentioning the vinyl references that came out on her first label Grind Records, whose first release had a great success in 2009 until it sold out, receiving the support of many influential DJs on the scene. We can find his productions in a large number of European labels till today.

Since 2017, she has been immersed in the management of her Combine Audio record label where they have released works by recognized Techno artists such as Ben Sims, Ken Ishii, DJ Shufflemaster, Patrik Skoog, Gayle San ... along with more established and emerging artists. Combine Audio has carved a niche for itself on the national techno label scene and has received the support of many artists worldwide. As she well says "This label is not for me, it is for everyone" and with it she intends to support many national artists to keep the scene alive and make it grow.

🗯🗯 What are you missing the most since March 2020? 🗯🗯

I miss to play in front of people, to see the reaction from the audience and exchange looks and smiles. It's about sharing emotions, feelings and moments. I also miss the feeling of being in a club, to be in the crowd and to feel the energy on the dance floor. I miss that feeling you get when you go to a club, you get a natural high. I miss those peaks of the emotional highs that we get from dancing. The exitement you get from dancing surrounded by many people and listening to music at a loud volume. you get an amazing emotional release. I miss dancing and communicating with my friends and even people I don’t know. I miss techno..

🗯🗯 How did you prepare this mix and what was your main inspiration? 🗯🗯

Well, for this mix, my main inspiration was to imagine people dancing during listening to the mix. I also danced on my own recording it :). I also thought what the nightclubs has offered and will still offer to everyone: hedonism, the possibility to live out their identity or their desires freely, less anarchy, more love and forget the time :) … The mix is divided in many style; from trippy and floating techno to something harder and galloping. I had fun recording it in my studio and I hope people will feel the same feeling when they listen to it. We need to dance!

Finland-born but Berlin-based Paula projects her sense of aesthetics and composition into non-verbal tensional sound creations, that are always emblazoned with a clear common thread. 

Paula is a resident artist and musical curator of techno collective, festival and event series @Monument-podcast and this position gives her a kaleidoscopic perspective on contemporary techno.

Born & raised in the city of blues & jazz, New Orleans, idalia was exposed to music from a very young age which was also thanks her Latinx upbringing. Constantly exposed to different soundscapes, and too young at the time to attend the iconic State Palace Theatre raves, Idalia dived deep into digging for different genres of music, including techno. Having traveled the world in the name of techno, this NOLA native is ready to put into practice just what she preaches, hoping to lure some into the faster, groovier side of techno and to make New Orleans a rave capital once again.

Cette semaine, A.mo (@angeliquemorin) nous propose un set de Techno Mentale et Industrielle qui nous transporte dans une autre galaxie. 

Derrière ce visage angélique se cache une artiste affirmée à l’univers sombre mais toujours vibrant. Passionnée de musiques électroniques depuis de nombreuses années, A.mo trouve derrière les platines un nouveau moyen d’expression qui lui permet de révéler l’autre facette de sa personnalité.
Issue de la musique classique et amatrice de danse (modern jazz et ragga dancehall notamment), elle a également développé un sens du rythme et des percussions qui façonne son esthétique musicale. Et c’est en se baladant entre la techno mentale et la fast techno qu’elle prend le plus de plaisir à construire ses sets percutants destinés à nous transporter.
A.mo est également membre du Vénus Club, collectif de DJs et professionnelles de la sphère électronique.

"One of the most difficult aspects of the last 13 months has been the complete lack of sound systems, which define the spaces where I both forged and maintain my relationship with techno. Proper dancefloors cocoon you in sound, granting freedom of body, mind, and soul, allowing for a completely individual experience with music, even moments of transcendence, while surrounded by some abstract, shifting mixture of friends and strangers. Pandemic delivered the exact opposite of this freedom, with lockdowns and isolation, fear and anxiety. 

7 months in, my memories of being enveloped by sound, anonymous in a crowd, felt so distant; my connection to this music I love so dearly was deeply eroded. Where it was once fun to DJ at home as a means to invoke the dancefloor, I could no longer summon those feelings; trying to play music for myself, alone, on small speakers, left me feeling disconnected and confused. Faced with creating a set for Samhain, a task I would normally welcome with joy, honor, and a sense of purpose, instead filled me with dread, apprehension, and a feeling of being hopelessly lost. 

Putting this set together was the most difficult creative exercise I have ever engaged in, I never struggled so much in my life to DJ. I forced myself to listen through music, assemble a collection of tunes, and finally to record a set, doing my best to summon missing feelings and connect to the lost spaces that hold so much meaning. This experience was so troubling that it would be the last mix I made in isolation.

6 months later, vaccinations are beginning to become a reality, and while my beloved dancefloors are still a ways off, things feel much less hopeless than they did in the autumn. Listening back to this mix fills me with a deep yearning for what we are all missing, and also hope for our future. I look forward so incredibly much to the day we can dance together again!!! and I can't wait to see you all.
