This July, the esteemed scribe, proper DJ, and discreetly deft twiddler Bill Brewster, drops the latest installment in his ‘After Dark’ series, for Late Night Tales.  

A throbbing, louche and leisurely affair, groove is very much at the heart of this freestyle selection, a vibe which Bill describes as “a basement, a red light and a sound system. Or, as the Beastie’s once rapped, slow and low, that is the tempo”. 

There’s Hawaiian drum machine bossa balearica from Island Band, percussive afro post-punk from Czech jazz singer Jana Koubkova, and breathy-bubbling-dubwise-slap-bass-soul from Debbe & The Code.  

There’s also sultry deep house mood music from Lanowa, infectious bouncy jazz funk breaks from Canada High, and Nail’s life-affirming re-edit of singer-songwriter Gilbert O Sullivan’s electro-pop gem ‘So What’. 

Bill’s own studio skills are present and correct too, featuring an undulating bassy version of country troubadour Jeb Loy Nichols, reworked along Alex Tepper under their Hotel Motel moniker, and a chugged-up squelchy disco take on Khruangbin, this time paired with Raj Gupta, as Mang Dynasty. 

Chock full of exclusives, tracks are either completely brand new or available digitally for the first time, whilst others are wallet-rinsing rarities if purchased elsewhere. Whichever way you slice it though, every tune is a highlight, working equally well as standalone nuggets, or within Bill’s fluidly cohesive mix.

R.M.K returns to NECHTO with his latest release, ‘NECH028’, following his previous solo record ‘NECH021’, his features on the label's VAs and numerous label event appearances. Hailing from London, R.M.K, the alias of Fossil Archive label head Roberto, brings a unique, evolving take on his sound. With over 20 years of experience, he has performed at iconic venues like Berghain, Tresor, and fabric, and collaborated with artists such as Trevino, Jamie Anderson, and Goldie. 

‘NECH028’ marks a new chapter in R.M.K’s artistic growth, with the EP taking over a year to complete. The release includes four vinyl tracks, plus an additional digital-only track. R.M.K notes that while each track has its own distinct style, they collectively tell a cohesive story. He also acknowledges the role of Nastia in pushing him to deliver the best possible quality, and he takes great pride in the result. 

This release reflects the evolution of R.M.K’s sound, demonstrating his dedication to refining his craft and offering a compelling narrative through techno.

Ohmu is a collaboration between Lithuanian (Vilnius) artist Rushkeys and Souvnear from Lyon, France. The track blends chopped samples, layered synths, background field recordings, and a tight rhythmic pulse to create a rich, groove-driven sound. Named after the calm but powerful creatures in Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, the track captures a sense of steady movement and hidden force — organic, textured, and always in motion.

Rushkeys & Souvnear - Ohmu

Serve Cold, Grigoré and Jaguar Jaguar return to Defected with ‘LOW’, following the success of breakout label debut ‘Dancing’ in June 2025. Frequent collaborators Serve Cold and Grigoré first made music in 2024, inspired by the electronic soundscapes and neo-soul of artists like Jungle and Khruangbin. Together with Belgian band Jaguar Jaguar they debuted their fresh house record ‘Dancing’ on Defected Records in June 2025. The track was a breakout success, earning two million streams and two-thousand radio spins in under two months thanks to early support from the likes of Keinemusik, RÜFÜS DU SOL and Tripolism - the track also topped the Beatport Afro House chart for nearly two weeks after release. Now they build on their dreamlike dance sound with ‘LOW’, an acronym of “Love is the Only Way”. Drawing on their shared inspirations spanning world music and underground electronic, ‘LOW’ proves the staying power of Grigoré, Serve Cold and Jaguar Jaguar as good friends and musical collaborators with bubbling textures and dancefloor euphoria.
