As we reach our sixth release we welcome Altered Feast to the RDR catalogue. The London based duo offer up their ‘Live 4 Eva’ EP, an all round dreamy release which nods emphatically to 90’s garage house, a clear influence of the Altered Feast boys and a label staple here at RDR. A match made in heaven right?

‘Live 4 Eva’ opens with ‘Mendoza’ a track which tactfully teases prized elements renowned with the genre; swinging drums, knocking snares and two step breaks. A versatile track capable of dance floor greatness.

The EP progresses with ‘Little Suzi’ where Altered Feast expertly continue the overarching theme of sophisticated garage house. The track implores a late night after hours vibe through the use of dreamy synth stabs, silk smooth bass line and sparing vocal chops. A truly marvellous little number.

Altered Feast enlist the help of label founder Swales to round off the EP through the inclusion of his Dreamscape Mix of ‘Little Suzi’. A heavenly blend of ethereal textures which superbly depict a dreamy house theme. The track builds layers of soft, easy listening elements all tied together by ‘Little Suzi’s’ teasing vocal clip. The track takes a decisive but brief turn into ‘nightmare’ territory inviting a pumping Reese baseline, two step break and tension infused strings. Not one to be missed.

A time when now legendary producers such as Maurice Joshua, Marshall Jefferson and Kevin Saunderson were introducing the fresh sound of House music to the clubs of North America and beyond. This EP is a nod to those producers and attempts to continue their vision with a modern interpretation.

Werk combines organ stabs, shuffled percussion and a whole host of sounds from classic machines of the era.

A1 - ‘I Can’t Let You Go’ kicks off the EP on a high with infectious vocals, brass stabs and jackin’ drums all tied together by a formidable piano arrangement. 

A2 - ‘The One’ takes a sleazy turn into a flawless late night house cut. Featuring gritty Rhodes stabs and hypnotising vocals it describes the story of a personal connection to the music on the dance floor.

B1 - ‘Feel The Energy’ on the flip side ups the tempo once again and delivers the ideal combination of house and garage. Expect lush instrument licks and rolling drums perfect for any occasion. 

B2 - ’Thinkin’ closes the EP. Last but most definitely not least, the track takes a decisively more mellow approach than the rest of the EP utilising chopped vocals, xylophone melodies and filtered chords. Perfect to tide you over until sunrise.

Our next release comes courtesy of rising talent Pandar and oh boy have we got a treat for you.

Entitled ‘Missing You’ the EP is an exemplary showcase of the young producer’s deep knowledge and commitment to what we at Rhythm Department deem to be the golden era of house music. With a persistent nod to labels such as Tribal America/UK it is clear that Pandar’s experience well proceeds his age.

The lead track ‘Missing You’ is a journey of silky arpeggiators and eerie, yet inviting vocals. The track evolves throughout with a building sense of mystique which erupts in a glorious crescendo. Trust us when we say this goosebumps are a common side effect.

The EP progresses with ‘All I Want To Do’ a shuffled sax delight that teases a somewhat familiar vocal throughout.

For track 3 Pandar brings in help from Harry Oscillate an extremely exciting talent in his own right to produce ‘Time To Bump’ a bouncy, acid fuelled roller that perfectly showcases both producer’s skillsets.

Last but most definitely not least label founder and previous release artist Swales steps up with his interpretation of ‘Time To Bump’ with his ‘Vibe Mix’. We hear influences of early Italo House records cut with live sax and piano solos.
