Lie To Me (Tom Waits Cover)

On Easter 2013 Chris Chancey and Scott Morgan headed deep in the woods of Finland to the small summer cabin village of Mynterlä in the dead of winter to record some sit down sessions of a few of their favorite Outlaw songs and Rockabilly versions of a few country and punk songs.  
"We arrived at 11:30 at night and didn't know what we where getting ourselves into with the snow. As it turns out; we had a 150 meter hike from a spot we could park the car and start humping gear to the cabin in knee deep snow. After firing up the wood burning sauna to get the cabin warmed up enough for our hands to have feeling and human habitation, we started rolling tracks. We recorded from 1am-6am, got up the next morning made some strong cowboy coffee and continued pickin' for another 12 hrs".
Chancey and Scott are members of the band Sixgun Republic. With half the boys back in the USA and Scott and Chancey currently living in Finland. They decided to get together for some recordings of the songs they play in duo and sometimes trio gigs with up right slap bass player Iikka Kettunen from the band Flat Top Rockets. Iikka just happened to be in the USA touring with Sixgun Republic's other guitar player Johnny Richie at the time and unfortunately missed this session.
Playing mostly Motorcycle clubs and the farthest reaches of Finland that no bands ever would dream of playing the boys just love to bring real American Outlaw music to the hardcore people that live in Finland.
This is the best of session recorded over 2 brutally cold winter days deep in the woods of Finland. 

Recorded with Logic Pro9, One Mic, 1 track per song and 2 guitars;1955 Gibson L5 and a Epiphone EJ 200...LO FI Breakdown! And there a few beers involved!

The Great Hoax AKA Nick Swanson returns in 2014 with his first full length compilation album ‘Swampland Swing’.

The Great Hoax started in Wellington in 2007 playing Leonard Cohen covers and their own material locally as a two piece. In 2011 when ‘the hoax’ became a one piece Nick Swanson carried on playing solo gigs in Wellington eventually moving to Auckland and playing at ‘The Kings Arms’ and ‘Backbeat’.

‘Swampland Swing’ is a collection of old and new songs featuring ‘Puppy’ {Shapes 2009}, ‘Lonesome Town{acoustic}’ and ‘Pop That Collar’ {Imitation red sky 2012}, ‘Decent Lying lady’ {Dark Matter 2013} and new tracks “What I want’, ‘Festival’, and ‘Gamblin man’..plus many more.

The album takes its name from ‘Swamp music’ ie the music of New Orleans swampland’s with added beats/grooves and slick wit.

The album’s lyrics and themes include capitalism, envy, lust, greed, revenge, witch craft, voo doo, and vampirism- {the opening track ‘Lestat de Lioncourt’ a tribute to Tom cruise’s character from 1994’s ‘Interview with the Vampire’.

The album can be downloaded for free or for donation.
