This episode takes place in three parts; Tea, Coffee & Baysie Boys. Part one looks at Hossein's experience moving to Australia from Iran and adapting to a new way of life. Sitting and chatting over tea and persian saffron sugar, Hossein reflects on his childhood in the mountains North of Tehran,  conservationism and his pet pink-and-grey gallah Sonny Boy.

In Part two, old friends Chris and Alessi chat at their local coffee house. Chris came to Perth from Leeds in the UK almost thirty years ago and has never been able to return to visit due since due to his battles with manic depression. Alessi arrived in Perth from extraordinary circumstances. After spending twenty years in a UN refugee camp in Kenya and seven years in Nairobi in limbo after fleeing his home in Ethiopia at fifteen, Alessi was finally granted a refugee visa to Australia. The two meet almost daily for coffee.

Baysie boy through and through, Peter McKimmie proudly claims he's been telling these stories for fifty years. Drift away into the wonderful world of 1950's Bayswater, on the banks of the Swan River (Derbal Yerigan). River Radio Episode 001: Tea, Coffee & Baysie Boys

A show about bodies of water. 

River Radio is produced by Paddle Clubb, a slow canoe collective in Perth, Western Australia. Sourcing old canoes cheaply on gumtree, a community emerged to look after and manage this communal resource of canoes, kayaks and surf skis with the aim of encouraging more people to get out on the Swan River (Derbal Yerrigan) and connect more deeply with place. 

Inspired by pyscho-geography and the 'dérive', we set out to reclaim the contested public space of the Swan River as a place of self reflection, healing and dreaming.  Each episode will investigate a different section of a body of water through story.
