87 - Without Hopes, There Are No Dreams

Fanontale is an AU that takes inspiration from Undertale fanon perceptions by using it to influence the roles the beloved characters take, as well as manifesting in-universe, affecting the characters and their stories.
This is not an Undertale AU about "What if Undertale fanon was good", but rather one that seeks to answer the question of "what if fanon perceptions had direct consequences for the lives these characters live?"

Frisk takes Toriel's role. They used to be one of the new rulers of the underground, inspiring change and the hope that humans and monsters could co-exist peacefully. That all shattered on one fateful day, when they were reminded of their past actions. They were violent and uncaring, once, but they fixed it! It was fine now! Right? 

Except... one person they killed- well, he sure wasn't brought back, so their stats remained stuck at LV 2, despite them reloading. And so, after an unfortunate experiment, which caused all of the guilt to suddenly flood back, they ran. They ran as far as they could, until they reached the Ruins, and finally collapsed. Asgore found them, and took them in, for he knew that look in their eyes all too well. 

They still tried to be the inspiring angel, of course, to the monsters in the Community Gardens. Be as kind and polite as possible. They tried their hardest to forget about what had happened, what they'd done. But the memories come back up soon enough. And Frisk cannot accept it. They need someone- anyone- else to blame, because the mere idea that they're not this perfect person they said they were- it haunts them. 

And, well, they find someone else to blame, that's for sure. But they won't fight Chara, of course not! That's not who they are. They can simply... help Chara as well, cure them from the infection that plagues them both. 

They can help you. They can fix it! They can save us all.
