The opening piece of set 37 of my Songs without Words project is infused with a baroque spirit, heard from bar 3 in the 2-part counterpoint, and in the overall binary structure; however, this gradually becomes diluted through my various stylistic hallmarks of chromaticism, the occasional subversion of the metre and exploration of the extreme of range. The second half maintains the musical material, but enjoys a richer texture.
