Huey Piano Smith & The Clowns defined Rock & Roll and very few ever came close to their glory save Professor Longhair, the man who created this style and influenced Huey heavily. Alan Toussaint, Dr. John and James Booker all got their start as teenagers in this band as well as my favorite Sax players Lee Allen and Alvin "Red" Tyler. Bobby Marchin and Gerri Hall as well as a slew of others sang in the band and after Johnny Vincent penned the lyrics and Huey put the song together with the help of the band this 45 went on to sell over a million copies and put New Orleans on the map yet again as the center of this new style of music...Rock & Roll.
