Our next deep dive for the Portals series sees a revisit to a genre of music that heavily influenced ASIP growing up. Yes, cheese-and-chords in their full glory; classic Trance music, but with a twist, of course.

Love it or hate it, I embrace classic Trance music for its brilliance of the time, and the impact it had on me (and indeed electronic music) growing up. I’ve mentioned before how the chill-out side of Trance music was one of the many avenues to open me up to more electronic ambient music. It’s become somewhat of a tradition since our first annual compilation release in 2019, and each year I find it tough to separate tracks from their album releases in this way. We pride ourselves on delivering an album format, and more often than not, specifically a conceptual album format that works best as a whole. So I appreciate the artists who allow us to separate their musical children for this worthy annual exercise. It’s so easy to skip over releases nowadays - at no fault of anyone but the pace of life and technology today - and so this compilation not only helps us reflect on the year gone by, but also ensures anyone new to the label, or dipping in and out over time, can get a taste of what we have proudly spent our time and passion presenting this year. Please take the time to visit each respective artist's release to realize its full form. 

Not only is separating tracks from an album format a formidable task, but finding a way to combine them in one seamless mix is even more so. Once again, we’ve asked our esteemed todos to provide the continuous mixed version. Creating a flow using a limited predetermined set of music across a variety of styles, moods, and tones is an almighty feat. But no-one does it better than todos. Here, he is left to his own devices as we have grown to admire time and time again, using snippets and samples from many of the releases, but focusing on delivering a long-form mix that stands on its own, using nothing but the ASIP 2023 library of music. 

It was a year that introduced new faces to the label with Iceland’s Gunnar Jónsson Collider providing a spectacular audio-visual experience in S.W.I.M, and welcoming Germany’s Mary Yalex who explored imaginary worlds of fascinating texture and melody. We fulfilled a long-awaited foray into more classic trance styles through the exciting Mikkel Rev, and finally presented the magical drums of Alex Albrecht’s heart-warming soundscapes. Max Würden continued his foray into expansive sonics with Landmark, and Quiet Places returned with their second Volume of psychedelic long-form trips into the unknown. One Million Eyes returned with more compelling genre-defiant magic, and OKRAA brought his live edits of his debut album 1994 to life once more. 2023 will also be remembered as the year Brock Van Wey’s Earth House Hold project came both full circle, and full stop. The last track title on this compilation coincidentally represents the perfect swan song for a project that has found a home on ASIP for the past five years.

“With this mix I tried to find the deeper layer of certain tracks and not limit myself too much with different tempo’s ranges. If it fits the vibe and helping the flow, it’s probably the right spot.

Creating a mix is an interesting creative outlet to discovering new possibilities and refining the art of setting the tone. Balancing on that thin line with endless opportunities, reflects the perfect capture of the feeling and learnings of today.”

A Far Blue concept by Bas Dobbelaer - 'Echoes'

There’s something special about clicking with someone musically, aesthetically, and on a human level. That’s exactly how we feel about our collaboration with Mostra Festival, which is entering its third year. We’re thrilled to introduce some of the talent performing at the 2025 edition and to continue this creative exchange with our friends from Spain.

Mostra 2025 happens April 17-20 at two brand-new locations. With two waves of artists already announced, it’s clear that the high bar set by previous editions has once again been met. Expect the finest in ambient, experimental, avant-garde, and techno. The final wave of artists will be revealed tomorrow, February 12—keep an eye on the festival’s socials for the full announcement. More details on the lineup, new venues, and everything Mostra-related will be coming soon to our page.

Today’s guest mix comes from an artist we’ve been following closely: Mariachiara Troianiello, aka Katatonic Silentio. An Italian producer, DJ, and researcher, she moves between electronic music, performing arts, and sound studies, blending abstraction with club energy. Active as a DJ for over 15 years, her sets oscillate between an analog past and a fast-moving future—sometimes dreamy and introspective, other times razor-sharp and unpredictable.
This January, she was part of ExtraMostra event at Berlin’s OHM, where Mostra & Midgar joined forces. Alongside DjSport, Forest Drive West, Keplrr, and Severja, she delivered a mind-bending set in a packed-out club that couldn’t fit everyone who wanted in.

For her guest mix in our series, Katatonic Silentio explores dub techno in her own meticulous way—controlled, intentional, and always with a sense of movement. The first hour plays with restraint, each track given space to breathe, while subtle shifts build an unspoken tension. Just when you think you’ve settled into the groove, she nudges things into unexpected territory—tightening the pulse, throwing in off-kilter patterns, and steering toward a more kinetic, unpredictable second hour. It’s a mix that keeps you on your toes, unfolding with precision rather than force. A refined trip from an artist who never takes the obvious route.

Delayed x Mostra: Katatonic Silentio

This week’s Delayed with… mix shines a light on the Milanese crew behind Techno Space Bar and one of their resident DJs, DJ Church. Techno Space Bar is a cozy party that’s brought in some familiar names from our orbit, like Orion, Alex Albrecht, and Noc:turne, alongside a solid lineup of local talent. They’ve got some interesting plans in the works, so if you’re into deep, thoughtful electronic music, give them a follow.

For this mix, DJ Church delivers a warm and atmospheric trip through a deep and melodic house. It’s the kind of set that works best in the daytime - relaxed, immersive, and just what you need when the world feels a little too heavy. An hour to unplug, breathe, and float. And as one of the tracks in the mix reminds us—do easy.

About the album:

"Lost and Found" is a moving and finely detailed album by PNFA, the musical project of German artist Wolfram Gruss.
