▼How did your DJ journey start?

I first started producing when i was about 16 years old and then after years of that and always hanging at clubs and being around all my dj friends i always wanted to learn how to dj so i could dj my own music that i produced as well as make cool remixes of stuff and kinda use other peoples music as on the spot instrumentals and samples if you will to create the sounds that i hear in my head lol so i started teaching myself how to dj as well as had some little tips and tricks from friends of mine who also dj'd.  I also have a dancers background so it helped alot with knowing counts and just catching beats and stuff like that :)

▼What is your favourite thing about being a DJ?

Being able to travel and see how people react to the sounds i transmit and BLENDSSSSS omgomgomg BLENDS♥♥♥

▼How would you describe the queer clubbing scene in your area?

Well i just moved back to cleveland ohio during the panorama in the states and im not sure how the club scene is now but it used to be a blast , i always had fun with my Haus (Haus of Hun) of course and we used to go out around cleveland cause mayhem in the techno and noise spaces one our favfavfav parties is IN TRAINING they always have fab music and sickening new and iconic dj's that a keep me dancing literallllllly all night fucking long ♥♥ before i was here i was in chicago and chicagos nightlife is alwayssssss a carry being able to go out and dance to hard hitting ass techno and gabber and footwork and breakcore in warehouses for litterally ever with my fab ass hot ass friends omgomgomg ughhhhh take me back to before the pandemic pleaseeeeee (-ω-、)

▼ How did your DJ journey start? 
My DJ journey started shortly after moving to Chicago when a friend gave me lessons and gifted me a pair of greatly appreciated, but wonky turntables from the UK that required a voltage converter, along with patience and a delicate touch. i had a few moments of defeat in the beginning because i just could figure out how to hear both of the records, separately, while they played together. beat matching seemed like an impossible task, and so many tracks that i loved only existed on hard to find vinyl so there were a lot of times where the reality of DJing for people felt distant. like many, the connection to sound + people while sharing music i love ignited a feeling a me that i have yet to shake, and has encouraged me to never stop learning and growing as an artist. 

▼ What is your favourite thing about being a DJ? 
My favorite thing about being a DJ is connecting with folks who have a shared emotional passion with sound and who understand the importance of sacred spaces for us to gather and support each other. sharing music and experiences surrounding that are methods of trust. you can learn a lot about a person by music they share, the events they attend, and the artists + spaces they support.

▼ How would you describe the queer clubbing scene in your area? 
The queer clubbing scene in my area exists online through virtual clubs + artist pages these days, but Chicago has a rich history of dance music surrounding queer folks, specifically our QTPOC family, and as the world re-opens and socializing becomes safer, we will find ourselves on dance floors together again in no time. like any city, finding your space sometimes requires you to make it, and contrary to what some may believe, there is space for everybody to learn, grow, and be themselves in the queer rave scene.

▼ How did your DJ journey start?
I started playing together with some friends a few years ago in my hometown Stockholm. We didn't s do it based on a life-long passion for music at all, but more like, we were going out a lot and thought "why not". Then everyone slowly dropped off, but I somehow continued because I guess I discovered that I was pretty intrigued by music after all. When moving to Berlin four years ago, I stopped completely. I can't remember why. But then, after two years or so, I randomly decided to start again, and I honestly don't know the reason behind that decision either. So, it's not a very linear or even that exciting story, but yeah, here I am (and now I'm passionate af btw).

▼ What is your favourite thing about being a DJ?
Getting laid!

▼ How would you describe the queer clubbing scene in your area?
Gay men all over the place. Every queer party is more or less a party for gay men. I don't think that's bad, but I'd love to see more parties in Berlin that are queer in a broader sense, and it's something my collective @bleaknarrative and I hope to contribute to in the near or less near future (depending on wtf will happen with the pandemic).

▼ How did your DJ journey start? 
One of my best friends started dating a girl who was a DJ at the time, and she’s the one who taught me. The first time I met her I went to her home by myself, and not with my friend, but we hit it off and she taught me what bpm is and I’ll always be thankful for that.

▼ What is your favorite thing about being a DJ? 
Making people dance. Finding new music to play. The free drinks, But also, I’ve play at a lot of queer events and I love to have a good party with the queer community

▼ How would you describe the queer clubbing scene in your area? 
The last two years, it has been almost non-existing, except for the summer. And even before corona it was pretty bad. But hopefully 2022 will be our year! If everything goes as planned, my DJ BFF, powervacua, and I will do a club in the spring called Fantasia and our first night will have an all trans lineup!!!

it's been well and alive but now coming out of the pandemic and faced with increasingly predatory real estate speculation, the fight for our living and social spaces is quite urgent

I am inspired by a wide variety of genres and love to puzzle unexpected tracks together in my mixes. For me music is a way to heal and reflect on life, so my sets always follow my current state of mind. Sometimes it is dark and moody with experimental techno, rave, hardcore and bass and other times it is uplifting and playfull with early trance, breaks, electronica and electro.

▼How did your DJ journey start?
I started learning to mix and then started DJing in late 2017, but I've actually been buying records since I was about 13 years old. 
A lot of my love of music comes from vinyl... some of my earliest memories are of being fascinated with my Dad's record collection. I'd spend my pocket money and anything I earned, buying mostly synth-wave, indie and electro bits (I think my first record may have been a Ladytron or an Interpol one), all for home listening. But when it comes to mixing and DJing, I'd never even considered it as something that I would or could do. It felt like a world I didn't really belong in, to be honest.  In 2017 I started helping out with a DJ collective of non-cis men in Leeds, called Equaliser. I actually joined for the politics and I wanted to help djing and music become more accessible for trans, non-binary and QTIPoC folx. I didn't seem myself DJing.
I went to one of their workshops, led by Lucy Locket. And that was the start of my DJ journey... I think having a non-cis man breaking down DJing was a huge turning point for me, and it was the first time I felt really relaxed around DJ equipment.

▼ What is your favourite thing about being a DJ?
I think seeing people like myself in the crowd to be honest. I love playing to queer folx. I like to play silly, I like to play sexy, and I like to play music that wasn't exactly made to be played by brown non-binary folx. 
It's always so special when QTIPoC and trans folx are taking up space in the crowd and letting loose, especially when I'm dropping something like 'I've got a big dick' or something just as naughty and I'm getting to throw out my masc energy.
 
▼How would you describe the queer clubbing scene in your area?
For specifically queer clubbing, it's a small scene. But it's also a protected and much-loved one, which has had a huge amount of care and energy put into it.
Love Muscle, a party I am a resident for, (Lucy Locket is too) was my first experience of a queer party like it. it really is special, there's a sense of freedom which is hard to come by there. It actually also played a part in my own coming out story, so I'll always be so grateful to it for creating a space where this is possible.
Myself and DJs/activists Mandy & Friends and Kessie started Flesh in Tension, a queer techno fetish party in Leeds that was created to decentre techno and fetish from cis-white gay men. And although everyone is very welcome in our space, it is one that centres trans, QTIPoC and non-binary folx. It's really special and something I'm really proud of. We have a wonderful team of queer and trans folx and a tight-knit party community, where we can all just get freaky and weird.. dance the night away... get naughty and have some fun... but also drink tea on the dancefloor!

▼How did your DJ journey start?
 After I finished Design school in 2011, I went through an intense party phase with a group of school friends. Some of them where DJ’s and through them I fell in love with electronic music. A year later I moved to Copenhagen, and really missed the intensity of the electronic music scene in Holland, so when I got my first paycheck I bought a small DJ controller and started practicing in my room. I used Youtube to learn the basics and a few months later I had my first gig at a queer art party from some friends. 

▼ What is your favourite thing about being a DJ? 
For me the dancefloor can be a place for healing and self-discovery, and it is amazing to see people connect to the music and join me on my journey! 
Besides that it makes me so happy to see minorities taken space on the dancefloor and getting their freaks on. 

   ▼How would you describe the queer clubbing scene in your area? 
When I moved to Copenhagen, most of the queer parties were focused on pop music, so in 2015 I started SWEAT together with some friends. We are a DJ-collective and have been doing club nights with local electronic queer/trans/non-binary DJ’s and artists in Copenhagen and Malmö. Nowadays the club scene in Copenhagen is quite happening, and there are several groups that host amazing parties, such as Group Therapy, Bibimbatty and Bedside Productions.

I was searching for a creative outlet in my struggle to realise myself after my arrival as an asylum seeker
in Sweden. I’ve discovered the queer underground scene in Stockholm back in 2017 and I wanted tell about my stories with music.

▼What is your favourite thing about being a DJ?
Making people dance. Dancing can heal everything.

▼How would you describe the queer clubbing scene in your area?
There is a small but supportive scene, and a small number of queer collectives that make partys. I want to see more representation of queer / trans / non-binary artists.

▼How did your DJ journey start?
I decided to order a controller and learn how to in 2018. I just practiced at home and one year later (during the summer of 2019) I had my first set at an open air in Malmö. Then it all went fast from there.

▼What is your favourite thing about being a DJ?
My favorite thing with being a DJ is making people feel shit, making people dance and enjoy the music as much as I do. I think that music has an immense power in making you feel a certain way, so seeing people feel what I feel makes me feel united with them. It’s a magical thing. DJing is also a way for me to express my inner world with music.

▼How would you describe the queer clubbing scene in your area?
I’d say that it exists, but its not enough. I think queer collectives, clubs and concepts has to get the visibility and attention it deserves. I’d say that FNGRLCKN (which I’m a part of) is a major part of Malmö's queer-scene.

▼How did your DJ journey start?
I always wanted to become a huge popstar and DJing was as far as I got. 

▼What is your favourite thing about being a DJ?
I love that I get to create moods and stories throughout the mixes. It is also fun to see when people are enjoying what I'm playing and I can't wait to get out and play again soon. Inshallah. I also love that it allows me to be a nerd but still makes me look cool. Right?

▼How would you describe the queer clubbing scene in your area?
Nah, it's kind of a bummer. The few venues we have do not offer that much space for new and creative thinking. I have not lived here for that long, but I get the sense that queer organisers, collectives, artists, etc are not offered that much space if they're not generalists. The focus lies not so much on what you want to do and what space you want to create, rather it lies on who you know and how many people you bring in to the venue. But it is probably like this everywhere. End of rant.

▼How did your DJ journey start?

Long story short: at a queer afterhours in Toronto. Until then I mostly just dicked around at the bar I worked at and attempted to host parties. I fell in love with another DJ there and followed them to Berlin - they helped push me to take djing more seriously and here we are.

▼What is your favourite thing about being a DJ?

When you’re playing a gig and everything lines up - the mood is correct, energy is up, dancers are eager. It often happens when you’re in the right place at the right time and ready for whatever people are craving. Feeling that connection to the dancefloor and trust from the crowd can lead to some very magical moments!


▼How would you describe the queer clubbing scene in your area?

political, connected, intense, enduring, excessive.

SWEAT is a queer and trans DJ collective and club night in Copenhagen and Berlin. 

With our club nights and events we aim to create safer and more inclusive spaces for lgbtqi ravers and promote queer, trans and non-binary DJ's and artists in the club scene.
