A Journey

Colorado-based RUMTUM (aka John Hastings), an acclaimed visual artist and up-and-coming producer returns to Bastard Jazz with his first full-length offering: “Isles In Indigo.” Arriving after a slew of successful singles (many of which can be found on the album) and EPs, “Isles In Indigo” both stays true to his established sound, and expands on the artistic vision; a luscious combination of aquatic ambient, lo-fi hip-hop, and mellow, melodic electronic, the record traverses the depths of the ocean to the outer reaches of the cosmos.

New offerings on the album include “Lost My Heart In Space” - an ethereal, downtempo cut - “Half Set Valley,” which explores instrumental lo-fi replete with distant, chopped and edited spoken word samples, “Coastal Ruins” with nods to breakbeat, “Mystic Symbols,” a trippy minimal track, and the album closer, “Commit Way,” which journeys from washed-out ambient to spacey hip-hop. Of course the LP also includes many RUMTUM mainstay singles, including “Shade Fader,” “Tropic Air,” and “Borealis.” 

Electronic producer and instrumental enthusiast RUMTUM has a unique approach to crafting his melodic melodies. May it be his love for native spirits, mystic symbols or even sea life, sampling the natural world plays the biggest part in the dynamics of his writing. Ambient loops and saturated synth lines set the tone while the bass and drums do most of the story telling. 

“Isles In Indigo” is a stunning freshman release from a budding artist on the rise. Stay tuned for the physical LP arriving March 2022, complete with an original art insert.

Super Enjoy co-founder @dextercolt kicks off the year with his first solo offering on the label - Guided serves up an all-encompassing trail over a landscape of valleyed grooves and designated checkpoints for quick breathers. Exploring deeper influences of ambient, dub techno and electronica, the Singapore-based producer leads with introspection, finessing layers and crafting boundless soundscapes. Built for both meditative isolation and smoked out communal spaces, Guided is generous with lush greenery and marks a new direction in the Dexter Colt lore we’re all here for. Music for when you leave the sesh feeling philosophical.

Lie down comfortably and allow yourself to be guided through the pages of this book, which uses ambient and experimental music as its words. Each page is carefully written by aerials on the roof, Bad_Mix, Carlos Ferreira, Max Mortel, Nørus, System Sophie, and Visions of Uriel.

'An Odissey Through the Silence of Mind, Vol. 1' is available digitally and in a special edition of 20 beautiful red cassettes, repeated on both sides for your convenience.

- *The 'I' in 'Odyssey' was a conscious decision to focus on the personal journey of the mind. Unlike the grand epic, the lowercase 'i' represents the self, the inner world where the mind embarks on its own exploration. It’s not about an external adventure, but a quiet, intimate odyssey through personal thoughts, doubts, and discoveries. The album delves into the mind's silent, often solitary path toward understanding, where every choice and reflection is uniquely 'I.'

Presenting the first single taken from Gabriele Poso’s forthcoming compilation on Mr Bongo, Ritmo Italiano ‘Unspoken Sounds of Italian Tamburo’. Tony Cercola ‘Lumumba’ is just one of the mesmerising tracks that Sardinian multi-instrumentalist, percussionist and producer, Poso, has curated for this captivating new compilation. It’s an under-the-radar, percussive Italo-disco / proto-house dancer, originally landing on the Italian label Tendance in 1987.

“How can one not be overwhelmed by the energetic force of Tony Cercola? An incredible artist who emerged in the 1970s within the so-called Neapolitan Power movement,” Gabriele mentions. Cercola’s track ‘Lumumba’ showcases the vibrance of Italy’s cultural crossroads, with influences from the Mediterranean, Africa and Europe all rolled into this dynamic tribal whirlwind.

Built upon a foundation of gated snares, flavourful bongos and a driving synth pop bassline, ‘Lumumba’ oozes ‘80s dancefloor energy. Reverberating chords and deft keys are layered up in masterful fashion, as earworm chants and a hypnotising lead vocal draw you in deeper. It's a perfect crossover track for a leftfield electronic dancefloor set and is tailormade to ramp up the intensity when the time is right.
