Background

29th May 1996, a set of twins, Phila and Philani Melato, were introduced to the world in Johannesburg, Soweto.  They discovered their love and passion for music at an early age through their uncle who was then a DJ, Celi "16" Billy Melato. Back then, all they loved was the pure sound of deep house music. Watching their uncle mixing deep house tunes in his backroom got them more fascinated with the art of music. This is when their love for Djing developed. “16” then taught these 2 very young deep house heads how to mix music using a computer software, AtoMix at the age of 10. Djing wasn't part of the plan, all they loved was mixing in their uncle's room, and collecting great hits from the djs that inspired them. When their uncle passed on in 2011, Phila and Philani decided to follow in his footsteps and transcend what he had already started. In 2011 they decided to approach one of the greatest DJs in Soweto, a legend in his own right, Trevor Pitch Poets. He along with his niece, Ms Thato, taught the twins the art and techniques of mixing using cdjs. They started calling themselves "The Genetic Sounds" because the pure sound of deep house ran through their veins. 

Breakthrough

The twins felt djing wasn't enough as they only played other people's music. Having mastered the art of mixing existing music, the twins had a burning desire to create their own music.  In 2013 in honour of their late uncle they changed their name to Sweet 6Teen and began producing music, He lives through their music, he is the twins and the twins are him. 

Sweet 6Teen has become a force to be reckoned with. They aren't just DJs and producers, they are in essence, the product of a legend untold. With the love for all music genres, the twins  produce  music  and  DJ,  D In  2016  they  were eep  tech,  soulful,  commercial,  lounge  and  Hip  Hop. involved  in  a  number  of  projects.  Work Business  E ing  very  closely  with  Siyafunk ntertainment,  Phat  Sound  and  Khoth'ekhothayo.  They  have  produced  2  sound tracks  for  Khoth'ekhothayo  cartoons. They've  recently  taken  up  the  role  of  publishing  music,  three  of their  Eps  and  a  debut  album has  already  been  published  under  their  very  own  stable  called  16th  Avenue  Brands  and  we foresee  them  helping  other  upcoming  artists  with  the  same  service.


Releases/Music

Debut  album: Dear th Billy Avenue released  in  2018  under  16th  Avenu e  Brands. House  Afrika  Records  stepped  in  and  helped  these  fine  brothers  release  and  publish  their album  titled  16 .  The  album  is  doing  well  and  since  it’s  release  in  October  2019  it has  been  featured  on  various  music  charts  including  New grooves  on  Spotify. Music  Friday
