Recover is an EP about reconciliation with oneself, healing of deep trauma both received and self-inflicted. 

These two songs are very personal, yet we as humans have more in common than that which makes us different. You will derive your own meaning from them. For some they are useful as a form of cathartic processing of deep emotions.  May they assist you in opening to the fresh and new energy that's always available when you let go of that which is unhelpful to you.

We all know heartache, trauma and the feeling of hurting those we love. Deep regret can surface once we come out of the state which caused us to behave in harmful ways.

We all know love also, and we all wish those we love to heal and recover, to learn  from their mistakes and move forwards, stronger and wiser.

This is the first track on our new EP "Recover" which explores folk rock and the chilled side of psychedelic music

Whatever You've Been Through

FROM RAFAEL:

Let the Drum Tell You is about shamanic drumming. It's about connecting with the elements, finding that transcendental place from where healing happens. It's about the drum as both an instrument and a teacher and healer. 

In mid October 2017 I was in need of some healing and processing of a series of unpleasant events in recent months. I woke up in the night whilst I was having a  dream in which a dear friend was playing a gigantic frame drum that had animal bones tied all around it. As I was remembering the dream I could feel this song coming so I grabbed the guitar and wrote words and music simultaneously.

  We normally play it live in a stripped down fashion with just the frame drum, guitar and our voices. However for this production I chose to enhance the epic nature I feel underlies the track. The frame drum and the djembe are still the pulse and heartbeat but alongside guitar and vocals I created many layers of rhythmic and ethereal sounds to weave a colourful tapestry.

I wish for this song to bring you healing and be of support to you in your practises and your lives.

Recover Your Brightness is a Valentine's poem, it's a call for self release from the shackles of the past, it's a lover telling their lover they can give their heart a new start.

I heard the main melody in my mind and sat down to play it on the guitar, I knew it was for an Icaro but I didn't know which until I heard Don Evangelino Muraray singing it, I think originally it's Don Jose Campos who received it).

The Mamankunas are the spirits of the plants and this song is an invocation to various of them, the original Icaro sings to many more of them but I focused on 4 for this rendition.

We recorded it during a meditation and sound healing retreat at Black Jack's Mill 9th October 2015

This is a song about the power of the voice (and sound) to open us up wide to the wow of love as it flows endlessly. It was 6 years old last month. I could call this an original, but it came to me with not much effort involved, I heard the words and the melody while I was trying to rest before a work. The chords were quite clear so I just had to give up the idea of resting and get to the guitar to learn it. Lucidia came along a few months later to add her gorgeous vocals to it which are now an integral part of the tune.

The words are simple:

This song is dedicated with love from it's inception to Ryan Holder and also to Zaiya Omamori, his daughter, Lucidia's daughter, my step daughter. It speaks of keeping our heads up when hardship comes and staying open to the mysterious nature of our lives. Also to stay connected to each other: even when hard feelings arise and seem to dominate we are all ultimately responsible for each other and no one can truly be happy until we all are.

FEELING SO GOOD (KUAUHTLI VASQUEZ FT. LUCIDIA AND RAFAEL'S SWEET MEDICINE)

The track is a free download. It's lengthy and ambient in style. It features Rafael's newly acquired rav drum (pan drum), chacapa, singing and production. It's completely homegrown :)

Like the name suggests, the track is a Metta Bhavana meditation. Metta Bhavana as a Buddhist loving kindness meditation in which you first give yourself loving kindness and then you extend it to increasingly big spheres. After yourself you give loving kindness to somebody you love, then someone you find somewhat indifferent, then somebody you have had problems with or find difficult. Then you open it up to your nearby neighbours, the city you are in, the country you're in, the whole earth, etc... 

Whilst you do this you can also have a gentle immersive dance
