- Interview's Key Points Translation:
MKJAY talks about how his latest album ‘MKJAY & Friends’ came about, gathering together a group of producer friends and some older tunes that were already being asked for. The result was a 10-track compilation of high quality collaborations - stay tuned for a volume two! He talks about how his music production endeavor was initially motivated by his relationship with his brother and how he compulsively downloaded music which inspired him to play on Virtual DJ. By 2014 he was already developing a refined taste for it and started trying to build his own beats from scratch, which slowly developed on the musical identity he puts out today. He mentions that his latest references have been leaning more towards UK Garage and Grime, but that doesn’t mean he’ll stop releasing some tech house bangers as well. The references he selected range from Brazilian artist Negra Li, which played a fundamental role in drawing his attention to music when he was younger, to Fu Gee La, which drove his interest to jackin house, and brazilian upcoming artists Big Bllakk x SD9, which has been inspiring him a lot lately through their Grime-like style. He describes his guest mix as a mixture of authorial tracks and other tunes he’s been digging the most lately, also mentioning that he’s putting out an authorial set pretty soon!
