After a lot of people asking me why I haven’t uploaded any new podcasts for a good long while, I've decided to start up a new series called SWITCH (p)ODDITIES.
This is the first episode, hope you like it.

First, three cereals - rye, spelt and barley - for a yeast that rises, stretches and relaxes over a slow, psychedelic tempo. Then hops for a peppery note, a rhythmic, intoxicating spiciness. Finally, wild herbs, the secret aromatic touch of the magic potion.
On the QR code side, an album with the same adventurous, unbridled tones - to be listened to without moderation.

Based in Nancy, Brasserie de Clémery draws its inspiration from both German brewing traditions and the organoleptic revolution of the craft brewing movement. All their beers are brewed and produced on site, with an emphasis on human scale, quality and short supply chains. They see tradition as a fundamental foundation, and experimentation as a necessary pleasure. And it works: in April 2023, one of their beers was named best beer in the world!

This is the recording of one of my sets from this year´s Boom Festival. Unfortunately I had a technical problem with my gear (there's a first time for eveything), so I couldn’t complete my 2 hour set. I did a fade out on this audio file just a few seconds before my soundcard crashed.

On this very day, 10 years ago, I played my first gig as a resident DJ at Lux Frágil. As if that reason alone was not momentous enough, the evening was made all the more special because I shared the booth with James Holden, who is probably my greatest musical influence. And just like that, 10 years have flown by. All of them marked by an endless array of music, friendships and an abundance of unique, amazing experiences.
Thank you to Lux, to everyone with whom I shared these crazy adventures and especially to all of those people who have spent a decade dancing with me.
And so, for the first time, I have decided to share the recording of my set from that night at Lux.

Switchdance & Twofold - Entre Espadas

Earlier this year, I was invited to create a piece of music for a collaboration between two famous Portuguese brands, Musa Draft Beer and Cockburn’s Porto Wine.

This project allowed me to travel to the Douro region, which is one of the most beautiful areas of the Portuguese interior, to record the sounds of the wine harvest. Later, I made my way up to Gaia to a wine coopers’ workshop to capture the barrel making process.

With these field recordings in tow, I headed to my studio where I blended these sounds together with some Portuguese guitar and a few of my favourite synths.

“Remistura” the new craft beer from Musa, aged in Cockburn’s Porto wine casks, is available today together with my new track of the same name.

Born in the early eighties in Lisbon via Goa, Marco Antão is the man behind the name SwitchDance - a monicker adapted from a skateboarding manoeuvre. He is a resident at Lisbon’s notorious Lux Frágil and is widely regarded as being one of Portugal’s finest and most adventurous DJ’s and producers, renowned for his highly eclectic, profoundly hypnotic sets. Known for his diverse musical palette and boundless creativity, Switchdance ultimately seeks to challenge audiences, all the while enticing them with a combination of music that draws equally from a comfortably familiar past and a distant alien future. Any and all boundaries are promptly discarded and conventions that seem to limit many other DJ’s are overcome with impressive confidence and audacity.
His residency at the aforementioned Lux Frágil has allowed him to share the booth with all of his favourite musicians and main influences. He has played at every significant club and festival in Portugal as well as all over Europe and was invited by the Red Bull Music Academy to play at two editions of Boiler Room. 
Taking his love of psychedelic arpeggios, gothic melodies and dusty drum machine-driven percussive moments, he distills and restructures these elements into a unique sound elegantly displayed in his productions showcased on labels such as Karakter, Beachcoma, Areal and, most recently, Innervisions - one of the biggest labels in modern electronic music. His track “O Amolador”, featured on the Secret Weapons 9 compilation, merges mysterious eastern melodies and kraut-rock inspired synths with samples that speak directly to the nostalgia of his youth growing up in Lisbon. It was this distinctive synergy that captured the imaginations of label heads Dixon and Âme along with countless others. With the success of “O Amolador”, Switchdance has been revealed as one of the most promising talents to come out of Portugal in decades.
