2023 was an emotional year for me. But it was also a year of rebirth for me, and the greatest gift of this year was my reconnection with trance music. Trance has been a part of my life for over 20 years now... feels like my entire life pretty much. But before 2023 I had only experienced trance by listening on my own... This past year I went to my first live show (John O'Callaghan at Soundcheck DC, I'll never forget it), which snowballed into more shows (Ilan Bluestone, Giuseppe Ottaviani, Maor Levi, just to name a few), and culminated in my first festival, Dreamstate SoCal. I had the pleasure of seeing most of the artists in this mix at Dreamstate, and heard at least half of these tracks played there. 

And I also decided to take up DJing. As a teen I had dreams of becoming a pro DJ, selling out crowds with trance music... but I never took the first step towards that. Until 2023. These days I don't imagine I'll ever be world-famous, but just sharing these mixes with all of you online feels like a realization of the dream.

This hour of music has a story to tell. I've been wanting to pour my heart out about some of the things I've gone through. I thought about writing them down, but it never felt right... Expressing myself through trance feels absolutely right. All of these songs have been extremely important to me at different points. Probably half of them have caused me to break down in tears over the past year. That power to take over my emotions is what I love about trance.

This was a really fun mix to make. In May 2024, the /r/trance subreddit ran a mix competition with a "Trance Around the World" theme. Every track needed to feature at least one producer/remixer/vocalist from your assigned country. I came into the contest a bit late, so with most of the larger countries already taken, I decided to challenge myself by picking Moldova. Moldova only has one super-famous trance producer, Andrew Rayel. And while he's one of my absolute favorites, I wanted to celebrate the whole country with this mix, not just one artist. 

I kick it off with the legendary "Run Away" from Eurovision 2010, a song which achieved meme status thanks to "Epic Sax Guy". From there, we move into the more chill, progressive sounds of Biotones, Stannis, Lanvary, and Jenya Solid. The energy then ramps up with the Mykex remix of "Soarele și Luna", Moldova's 2023 Eurovision song, in their native language. The big room energy continues into "Get Down", our first Andrew Rayel appearance, then transitions into some uplifting sounds from Nkoder, Jenya Solid, and Biotones. We bring it home with two Andrew Rayel remixes from Fisherman and Ilan Bluestone.

This set is a love letter to house music. A couple weeks ago, I got picked (at random!) to play at an open deck night called House of Cards, my first time playing for a live crowd. I only had 45 minutes to play, but it was electrifying. I didn't record that mix, but this is an extended take on the same theme. Love is the message - my motivation.
