There's a picture I had in my mind of a green hill, beautiful sunshine all around, a forest on the left hand side. I swooped down to you. You looked brighter in the picture than you ever did when I was by your side, but you faced the other way, dared not turn around to see me. Your hair so blonde, your dress so blue, it was a dream. You didn't even know that I was there. I couldn't even seem to touch the ground. The picture was from another time. I zoomed closer then, to your figure there. Blue turned to white. Some kind of a smile was appearing on your face. Small birds flew.

Sweet Blue Babe On The Hill

A song about an ex who moved away and was never seen again. Way up North into the real North: Lancashire. Where it rains even more than South Manchester, so much so that it's basically just one big lake up there. Beautiful surroundings marred by claustrophobically low grey skies and people who are overly friendly to strangers. The Deep Dark North, if you will.

Lancashire

A song about the same ex I sang about in Lancashire, although written straight after the break-up as a confession of everything I wanted to confess during the relationship but couldn't out of pride and cowardice.

Bo Peep

A song about a rebound girl I dated for a while. I obsessed over her and so scared her off. This song is the story of that obsession really.

Witches' Bones

Just a filler song. Some half-baked lyrics about feeling good about myself because I'd been doing exercise while at the same time missing my best friend.

Amble

This is a song about a girl I used to date. It's very typical of me, whingeing and blowing my own trumpet at the same time. The drums in the song are OK though. I was heavily influenced by Martin Phillipps and the Chills while writing the song. It was written on a school piano in a school that I work at. It's my favourite track from the album to listen to on headphones I think.

A Taste Of You

This is the oldest song on the album, written at a time when I was immature enough to make indie dance songs. It's about my ex, who I was in love with at the time. Never thought this song would be on the album because it's too dancey.

When The Lights Are On

I hate this song, but I put it on the album because other people like it.

Cavern Drip

This was never supposed to be on the album because it's barely a song. It's just an idea, but with drums maybe it sounds professional enough to pass off as an album track. It's about a girl I met at uni that I used to have relations with but didn't actually like.

Magic Claws

A ditty about a very special girl. The song is supposed to be epic, what with the organ crescendo at the end. It was written and completely recorded in the space of a couple of hours, which I'm proud of. It's an OK end to the album I think. It was written only days before the album was to be completed so it was never supposed to be on it, but at five minutes long it's a nice way to get the minutes up, and it meant I didn't have to attempt to produce any of the other songs that were meant to go on the album.
